Bicycle helmets are now 'mandatory' in Japan. Here's how people feel about that.

This thread reminds me of the guy who got into the Guinness Book of World Records by eating a bicycle.

From the linked article above:

Despite not publishing potentially dangerous records, such as those involving the "consumption of live ants, chewing gum or raw eggs with shells", an exception was made for the eating of a bicycle because it was "unlikely to attract competition."

His name was Michel Lotito (b. 1950 - d. 2007), some guy from France who gained a small measure of fame by eating inedible objects.

His life achievement was the consumption of an entire aircraft - a Cessna 150 - between 1978 and 1980.

He achieved these feats by breaking down metal, plastic and glass components and grinding them into shavings that he would then consume - up to two pounds of these shavings a day.

He died at 57. It is not known if his strange diet had anything to do with his premature death but his own doctor admitted that Lotito's diet was "more of a mental problem."

I am very happy to see bike lanes being put in in my own city - not that they’re used much, they aren’t - even better are the barriers being put up to guard the bike lanes from errants cars - wish they were made of concrete, though, and not plastic, but that is better than nothing.

We have five e bikes in our family, including one with a front bucket for my SIL where the dogs ride - mine just hit 1200 miles (18 months old) with one tune-up and the battery in OK shape. We look like a traveling circus with the dogs in the bucket and one in a backpack.

Can’t wait to get on it today.

Question

I noticed on my trek mountain bike that my back tire is 29" x 2.00", while the front is 29" x 2.20"

Very small difference but I am wondering why? Is this typical and a good reason for it? Does it make a difference? You would think if anything the back tire would be a little wider.

My back tire worn down and needed to be replaced, and I must of looked at the front tire when getting the size & purchasing assuming they are the same, so now both the front and back are the same 29" x 2.20", so hopefully this won't matter.

I wish everyone a Happy and Blessed Easter Sunday tomorrow!

It occurred to me that I been doing The Bicycle Thread PING List since September 2021 and that maybe someone else who is currently on the List might like to run it for a while and add their own flavor, mojo, whatever. I'm a minimalist so this always worked for me:

Welcome to The Bicycle Thread. A monthly PING List for bicycle enthusiasts to share experiences, information and ideas. 🚴‍♂️👍
But of course that can be changed to what you like. I recommend PINGING once a month but twice a month could work too.

If no one wants to then I will continue with no problem.
This is an offer you can totally refuse.

Here is the current list:

Pink Floyd The Wall painted on the famous Berlin Wall.

You can't see from the picture but in my basket I have a couple of books I found while bicycling. In Berlin it is common for people to place stuff they no longer want in boxes outside buildings. Mostly clothing, shoes, music CDs, books, drinking glasses, plates, etc, etc, etc. I sometimes stop to look at the CDs and books but I have also found some nice glasses and plates.

This morning I found these two hardcover books (books 1 and 2) that I will be reading. 😃

Was still freezing cold this morning. That has to change soon!

I would get a second bike for Treptower Park because I really like this style of frame. But finding an XL cruiser frame for my 6 feet 4 inches is a big problem. My used bike of 55 cm was too small but my new (not so new now) 60 cm is good. This bike is a good idea but it still has no gears, handlebar brakes (push back on the pedal to brake), nor shocks or fenders. But still I really like the style of the frame and enjoy seeing them. I wish they made a hybrid road/mountain/cargo/cruiser bike with this frame in XL size. With a military look. Don't get me wrong though - still love my bike.

This layout and design graphic was created for social media at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, April 5, 2023. It depicts images of bicycles and has text laying out German laws and other tips for riding a bicycle safely. (U.S. Air Force graphic by Senior Airman Madelyn Keech)

Good to know and keep in mind with the warm weather coming. Remember it's your life worth saving. Plus you don't want to injure anyone else.

6 Easy Ways To Find Your Perfect Riding Position
Today happens to be my 58th Birthday (TY, TY, TYVM!). So for me the perfect riding position is sitting straight up. Perhaps thatÄs supposed to be embarrassing but I like it so much I JDGAS. I used to ride my bicycle a lot with my Dutch mother and my tall frame of 6 foot 4 inches pushed me off bicycling because it was too uncomfortable for me to crouched forward on a road bike and mountain bikes did not yet exist. So for many decades I did not ride a bicycle, which is actually one of my biggest regrets, maybe the biggest.

So it's my Birthday and after celebrating and planning what we are going to do this extended weekend (Monday is a holiday.)... I retreated to my man-cave and just felt the need to search up this song on YouTube.

Shortly after the song started my wife sung the door open quick and demanded to know why I played THAT song.

I honestly said: Because It's my Birthday and I am happy to be alive.

She said that when she was out earlier, there were three men playing that song in the subway station.

I hope you all enjoy my Birthday!
