The hero cops who stopped a transgender school shooter in Nashville are a Marine Corps veteran and an award-winning officer.
Michael Collazo, 31, and Rex Engelbert, 27, of the Nashville Metro Police, have been hailed heroes after taking down Audrey Hale, 28, on Monday after she had shot and killed six at The Covenant School.
Hale opened fire inside the small, church-run private elementary school on the outskirts of the city shortly before 10.13am. Dramatic bodycam footage showed Englebert and Collazo shooting her dead by 10.27am.
Collazo is a Marine Corps veteran who responded to the Christmas 2020 bombing, which also took place in Nashville, where Anthony Quinn Warner detonated a bomb downtown, killing himself and injuring eight others.
Collazo, a nine-year veteran of the force, is also a former firefighter and has previously served as a SWAT team paramedic. He has a young daughter, according to Fox News.
The Nashville native had joined the Marine Corps directly out of high school and is said to have relied on his military training throughout the active shooter situation, his older sister Deanna Collazo DeHart told Fox News.
'He really does love his job. When I sit and think about all the training and all the different classes that he does, and all the family events that he's had to miss because of training or leaving to go through this training or this class… it all really does pay off,' she said.
'[He's] obviously very brave, braver than I've ever imagined,' she said. 'To see the bravery of all of them just storming and clearing the rooms is absolutely phenomenal.'

That’s how you take care of business they took out that evil pos in one shot
“If I didn’t know how it ended I probably would have “changed the channel” due to high “suspense”.”
And of course the cops didn’t know how it would end - they might have been the ones laying dead on the floor the next instant.
Reminds of some guy talking about WWII. Something like “And it’s all well and good sitting on this side of history, but at the time nobody knew how it was going to turn out, and not knowing what decision was going to be a success and what would be a blunder.”
Amen. Heroes alright! God Bless them.
they did an excellent job of neutralizing the perp
and at the same time by using and publishing the bodycams quickly, it tamps down any AlexJonesery type doubt that could arise,
now, on to gun control and blaming Christianity for causing this ![/sarc]
I thought the same thing. Maybe multiple head shots??
I hate to say this, but I fear for these officers now that trans people are baying for armed conflict. DailyMail is making them targets.
>It is a shame that they blocked out her face. That would have been interesting to see.
Head shots. No face left.
nice clean takedown
Great job, but it took 15 minutes. Too bad, a few folks working at the school weren’t armed, the killer would have reached room temperature sooner.
Those officers looked SO YOUNG, God bless and look over them both!!
Poor citizens of California, they could have great police like Nashville but half population of the state is against any sort of law’er enforcement and refuses to support their police. Ahh the pleasure of having Goofy Gavin as your Emperor in fact.
“We toss the word hero around too much,...”
...you can say that again. Our P.O. still has “Heros Work Here” out front. All I see are a bunch of shlubs trying pay their rent and feed their families. That is NOT the def of a hero.
I also watched the video and I was scared just sitting at home. Seeing those police walk into the valley of death impressed me so much I went to the Nashville police web site and recommended them for a commendation.(least I could do)
Fine work there guys!
Maybe they should go to Uvalde and do a workshop for the police there.
You could tell they were ex-military just by the way they moved. Those guys have clear hot spots before.
Why do I have this nagging feeling that these two officers will somehow be punished, silenced, or threatened at their personal residences?
‘[He’s] obviously very brave, braver than I’ve ever imagined,’ she said. ‘To see the bravery of all of them just storming and clearing the rooms is absolutely phenomenal.’
The coup de grace shots at the end of the engagement are appreciated here. No need for a circus trial now.
Anyone who has ever lived in California either distrusts or hates the police (unless they are LE or oblivious to reality). The police in CA have earned their status as enemies of the general public very well
As soon as I started watching that takedown video I knew that guy had to be former military. No regular cop would be that decisive.
