The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.
Sorry and surprised that yesterday’s proved so difficult, but in retrospect I can understand why. Solution below.
If you need a clue ask the group to send you a letter to your private reply.

Third word got me started. I like the author.
We like Ike.
The opposite of the author, and completely lacking in the theme of today’s quote.
Posted because that’s probably where the author got the idea from. As you note - the bad example.
Finally. Thought I had that word, too. And I did.
He had some good quotes:
“In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist.”
Though I was young at the time, as I look back he always seemed to possess that quality.
ICBW, but I don’t remember any braggadocio or bombast from him.
Yes, ZSIEAEYD must not be mistaken for lack of well placed self-confidence, or moral courage, qualities he possessed in spades. Thank God Stevenson was never president.
Today’s author served as MacArthur’s aide for a while. He described the time as ‘spent studying theatrics’.

I eventually got it after much digging into the hints. Gave me a name.
Was totally unknown to me, much like the ubiquitous Steinfish references FR is full of.
I was applying for a job once, and they asked the question they always ask. What would you say is your greatest strength? I said it was my ZSIEAEYD. I said, “Let me tell you just how strong my ZSIEAEYD is.” I went on and on about the strength of my ZSIEAEYD.
Believe it or not, I got the job.
