Gwyneth Paltrow was called to the witness stand Friday in a civil suit filed against her, where she disputed allegations that she caused an accident at Utah’s Deer Valley Resort in 2016 that left a man seriously injured.
Terry Sanderson, 76, who is seeking $300,000 from Paltrow, says she slammed into him from behind in a ski collision that left him with a concussion, brain injury and four broken ribs. But Paltrow alleges that it was actually Sanderson at fault and that he is exploiting her wealth.

Paltrow was called to the stand Friday by Sanderson’s attorneys, after the jury heard from Sanderson's daughters, an eyewitness and medical experts.
Paltrow said she was “gently” skiing down the slope when she felt a body press into her back and saw two skis slide between hers. She and Sanderson fell to the ground, Paltrow said, adding that she momentarily froze before becoming upset and yelling an expletive at Sanderson.
Paltrow apologized for the outburst, saying she felt violated and initially believed the crash might have been a sexual assault.
“There was a body pressing against me and a very strange grunting noise,” she said.
(snip) Sanderson's acquaintance, Craig Ramon, (snip) testified Tuesday that he was roughly 35 feet uphill from Sanderson at the time of the accident.
Ramon said he heard a scream and within a few seconds, saw Paltrow slam into Sanderson from behind. He stopped beside them after seeing them both fall to the ground, saying Paltrow stood back up but Sanderson was facedown in the snow for about two minutes.
Paltrow did not speak to them, Ramon said, leaving about four minutes after the accident without identifying herself or asking if Sanderson was alright or needed medical attention.

If she did run into him, then it's likely she wasn't a very proficient skier especially since she was with an instructor but not worthy of a lawsuit since such collisions are very common.
If lawsuits like this became commonplace then I would expect ski resorts to resort to demanding skiers show proof of liability insurance at the time they purchase their tickets or include their own insurance added to the cost of the daily ticket.
Um, collisions happen when skiing. I’ve been wrecked twice. One put me in the hospital. Didn’t sue anyone. Part of the risk. Sheesh.
Unfortunately, there are going to, very likely, be the “bigbob” jurists; those who are broke themselves, envious, touting a “victim” mindset and/or just mentally lazy - and therfore believe wealthy persons should be commanded to just pay up - based on their presumed means and regardless of the facts of the case.
So he looks terrible.
What is with these plastic people and their plastic face fillers??
Horrible look.
Settle for $150k-case closed.
For someone of her means, the old man asking for $300K doesn’t seem like ‘taking advantage of her wealth’ to me. and her testimony about thinking it was a sexual assault has nothing to do with the actual cause of the accident; it was purely prejudicial for the women on the jury I’d say. I’d rule against her just for that if I were on the jury.
. The damages sought aren’t outlandish all things considered.
Yeah, I wonder if she offered anything in a meditiation...
Although her net worth is 200 mil and that would put it to bed, I think it’s the principle of the thing.
Liar!
No, she’s a pretty huge celebrity....not minor at all. She does not seem like a pleasant person.
ping
I believe I heard he originally sued for $3M.
She countersuied for $1M.
He then lowered it to $300K.
This is the trial.
Her mother is an actress.
Her father I think is a producer.
She won the genetic lottery when it comes to looks.
She was also formerly married to a rock star.
They named their first child APPLE because she was the apple of their eye.
So, yes she has led a very privileged life.
However, unlike a lot of young people who grew up in Hollywood she is not a drug addict screw up like so many other young people that grow up very privileged.
They know they can afford lawyers for frivolous charges and you can not. Plus it is publicity for them.
Is she currently filming a horror movie, or does she need a new hairdresser. I’m sure her lawyers told her to look plain for the jury but she took it too far with her hair.
She looks fine to me. But I’m no spring chicken myself.
I was skiing down a black diamond trail in the Northeast in poor conditions (sheet ice with a thin layer of loose granular on top of it) and I fell.
I couldn’t stop sliding, and was picking up speed. On my back, headfirst, I was trying mightily to turn around in my slide, and saw that I was approaching someone who was standing halfway between the side and center of the trail.
I yelled “LOOK OUUUUT!” and then plowed into him.
The two of us kept sliding together, him on top of me, neither of us able to stop.
Finally we hit an area where a little snow had collected, and it was enough t bring us to a halt. Altogether, it felt like I must have traveled fifty yards total, half of it with him on top, both of us tobogganing down the slope.
Covered with scrummy ice granules, we peered at each other through our goggles, both speechless for a moment. I stuck out my hand and said “Sorry about that. My name’s Bob!”
He grinned and grabbed my hand and shook it with a grin of relief.
I think two things about that: First, we were both relieved we came to a stop before we went off some drop-off or before we hit a tree or rock. Second, I had the distinct impression he knew exactly what had happened to me, because something similar must have happened to him that morning!
Skiing is inherently hazardous. I sure do miss it, but with what it costs now to ski, that just seems like insanity to me. I stopped when I hurt my knee playing volleyball, and just never felt safe with those long things on my feet again. Also had to stop playing hockey. But the way things have changed, I guess I don’t miss it at that price.
Having grown up on a ski mountain whomever is above and slams in to a person below is responsible for the crash. Worst accident I saw was an idiot going hell bent for a jump and killed a guy when his skis nearly decapitated the downhill skier.
If Paltrow crashed in to him from above... Pay up.
