—”I’ve carried a Spartan for many years now.”

I gave my wife a Spartan nearly fifty years ago.
Amazing that she had the only corkscrew in a large government office.

She still has the same one.

Well, I certainly dont want to share the secret of all of the double naught doodads carried by a super manly high speed low drag operator like myself but I will tell you about something that Ive started doing as a distraction for anyone watching....(Yeah, thats it)...

Did you ever consider a compact? No, not that one...
Ya, OK. Its that one.

In this discussion there is always talk of what you use as a container to carry all these things. The Altoid tin seems to have become sort of a standard in how much can you carry in a fixed container.

I got to thinking that I didnt like all those disparate things crammed together and to tell the truth I cant decide on just a handful of things or am too lazy to change daily the items in it.

I looked around for small pocket containers and one day MrsMaw was chucking out a makeup compact. This wasnt the little round mirror one. This one was bigger and had compartments.

I asked her to give me the empties before she chucked them in the future and have used them to make a kit of pocket modules for different things. There is one that that I made into a tiny tackle box because it had a compartment that had a bunch of holes that I put live bait I pick up along the way and can still put back in my pocket without crushing or killing the bait. There is a first aid one, I have another with small tools, and a number of modules Ive put together.

I keep them in my car and change what is in my pocket to whichever 2 or 3 are best for that day.

“Nothing really interesting such as what Huck Finn and his pals carried.”

Back in the day when we were first married my wife said she was surprised that a frog never jumped out of my pockets when I would empty their contents on the dresser before washing.

: )

I used to load them up too, but my wife gradually steered me away from it. She was right. I don’t know how my pants stayed up.

I’m on my third in about fifty years, having replaced one just a few months ago; I think it had around 30 years of use. The old one had both the cutting blades sharpened away to about half their original width, and the internal parts were pretty well sprung.

I had a Tinker back in high school, but soon realized that you could turn Philips screws with lots of things but you couldn’t open a bottle of wine with a Philips screwdriver (well, you can, but it’s not pretty).

For the last 20 years, a tiny Leatherman multi tool.

I have lost @ 3 of them forgetting to remove them before going to an airport :)

I did try a card size multitool for a while.
They still took it at an airport.

Wallet, keys, phone. That leaves room for the occasional addition of a receipt, a small tool maybe, such as a flashlight.
Two pockets is all I need. I’m one of those women who can’t stand to carry a handbag. No way do I want to lug around stuff I don’t need.

Swiss Army Knife.
I’ve carried one, nearly everyday since I was in 6th grade.
I carry it everywhere.
In fact I carry it more often than I do my drivers license and wallet.

—”They still took it at an airport.”

I forgot about it once and the metal detector found it.
I said oh, my multitool! and thought it would be gone.

The woman said “I know what is”, and waved me on.

Our daughter forgot her Spartan and no such luck...
I purchased four of them on Ebay, for $15.00 with free shipping.

You were lucky. I forgot to remove my Leatherman once at an airport. The screener didn’t take it, though, but instead let me go back out, where I was able to scrounge a small box and check it through as luggage. That was long enough ago that the airline didn’t charge extra to do that.

Assisted opener (tanto), mojo bag with an Illuminati symbol on it (contents are a nocturnal, a decade rosary, a pocket watch case with five sets of polyhedral dice, $25, and a lucky Billiken coin from 1906), car key case with keys and a koi keychain I got as a freebie off the internet back in 1995, a deck of blue Bicycle 808s, and a tie-dyed black and purple handkerchief. Nobody but nobody wants to know what’s in my wallet.
