NM school board trainer on hot mic: ‘Parental rights end’ in public school

A new undercover audio recording released by Freedom Families United, a group that specializes in exposing educators and systems pushing “woke” policies, appears to show a New Mexico School Boards Association trainer, Andrew Sanchez, teaching school board members anti-parent policies.

“We’re going to start basic ... power of the board. You… shall have the following power: to develop educational policy for the school district,” Sanchez says.

~snip~

He told the school board members in training, “Remember, your most powerful governing tool is the power of the pocketbook. The school district doesn’t do anything unless you’re going to fund it, right? These are very fine points of why you’re so valuable and so important with regards to public education.”

“Parental rights are developed by the common law. The idea of the common law was that only parents had the ability to tell… to say what was important for their child. Religious freedom: What basically the argument that has been happening now is people are arguing that the religious beliefs trump and allow them to discriminate against others.”

“In other words, now they are saying that the constitutional rights have precedence over each other. So you’re going to see a lot more everything based on that religious freedom-type argument.”

"... You [parents] do not have the fundamental right to tell the school district how to teach your child. Your choice is if you don’t like it, you can go to a private school that was more aligned with your political or your religious beliefs” (emphasis added).

Sanchez said, “So, this all boils down to parental rights being: They have the right to pick the system they want their kid to enter, but once they enter it, they cannot tell a public school how to teach their child or what to teach your child.

The sooner the teacher’s unions understand a teaching certificate isn’t a diploma to be GOD.

Educators have also said they feel bound by their own morality to affirm students’ gender identities, especially in cases where students don’t feel safe coming out at home. (emphasis-added)

What if I were a teacher with the opposite belief? I'll call your son a boy/he/him no matter how foofy a dress you parents put him in, how many hormones you give him or even if you have him completely replumbed. A trillion Y chromosomes don't lie and I won't participate in your game of make believe. Does this leftist educator still assert "in loco parentis" for me?

“You have the right to go to a private school”
The trainer doesn't know how right he is. The money should follow the parents. The Parents should chose which school the child attends.

To argue any other position makes no logical sense given our constitution. If parents choose a woke school that is their choice and nobody else’s. If parents choose a Muslim or Evangelical or Objectivist school that is their choice and nobbody else’s.

We need to constantly argue from logic based on: you have the right.

All of the gender woke CRT LGBTQABCDEF crap being pushed by schools have been made POLITICAL issues, which have absolutely no place in any public school. No political issues (except for generic topics in Civics) belong in schools period. Its the difference between education (reading, writing, math, etc.) and indoctrination (biased politics and political issues)

School funding is based on the number of children. For every child that is removed, the schools’ taxpayer money is reduced.

This is happening in Iowa. My daughter is trying to get a teaching job after graduating but the public schools budget are being drastically cut due to the new laws. Told her that once the public schools have a good product, people will come back.

The school my kids went to is being closed due to low enrollment. All over town are Save Our School signs. Told one lady the only way the school stays open is if people enroll their kids. The school was designed for 120, grades K-5 and the class sizes are roughly 10 per class.

Citizens elect school board members. Parents have every right to criticize the school board policies during their term. Parents can criticize superintendents, principals and teachers. Citizens can vote school board members out.

The obvious answer is don’t send your children to public schools.

Education should be mandatory. Public schools should not.

a liitle more complex.

My wife and I were called into the school counselors office. Students, including our daughter had been asked to fill out a form:

Are you white, black, hispanic, asian, native-american or other?

My daughter had put down that she was both, 50-50 hispanic and whitel.

The teacher told her she could not be both. She had go choose between her mother and father, one or the other, not boh.

A long argument ensued during which neither teacher nor student was deiplomatic or kind.

It turned out to obtain a certain pocket of federal money the school had to reach a certain percentage of hispanic. They were 2 students short of that percentage. They needed my daughter to say that she was hispanic.

That a significant number of students were black and asian was irrelevant to this pot of money. I started to pay more attention to these special pots of money. It turns out there are many.... and not just in schools, but also at all levels of government.

Example: The multi-trillion $ ARA American Rescue Plan is mostly grants to woke non-profits and woke state and loca government agencies for specific woke programs.

For example, money for construction of a new facility does not only go to carpenters, plumbers, electricians.... It also goes to attorneys to fight for waiver of EPA, zoning, building code variance, and many other waivers of government rules. Some don’t understand the “Mayor Daley” form of gubbmint. The primary reasons for laws and regulations is |
1) to generate the need for more laws and regulations to fix the injustice of the previous laws and reguations and
2) The creation of jobs for lawyers, staff of lawyers, staff of organizations to research and lobby all sides of an issue.
3) Independent auditors to make sure all labor laws, equity laws, environment laws, etc are followed. And of course, the independent staffers must have staffers in that project so there is someone with whom to “iterface”.

In the case of my daughter, Hours of time in each classroom were spent by the teachers and students in filling out the multipage paperwork. Thousands of hours were speht by school clerks, counselors, vice principals, principals and all the way up to board members. The position of the board was to go for all mony sources possible. The president of the school board at that time went on to State Rep and State Sen and a leader of the pro-life pro-gun minority wing of the state legislature.
