It has happened more times than I can count. The doors slide open on a train car full of half-occupied pairs of seats. As the newcomer enters, we all set our features to maximum stoniness, flick the dimmer switch behind our eyes. New Guy picks his way awkwardly down the aisle. He is praying for an empty row to suddenly materialize, a resentment-free zone rich in the traveler’s most treasured resource: space. No luck. He comes closer, closer. Here he is. Here is his stupid bag being stowed against my feet. Here is his stupid arm on the armrest. Here is his stupid aftershave in my nostrils and his stupid music leaking out of his barely-muffling headphones two centimeters from my ear.
New Guy, why do you always sit next to me?

Methinks she doth protest too much...
Not behavior I have witnessed from non-BIPOCs.
“Hey! I’m gonna sit by YOU!”
Another one rides the bus...
First world bitching. In Tokyo she’d be standing in a car packed like sardines.
Because the seats are narrower than my shoulders, so I try to pick a seat that gives me half a chance of sitting normally and avoinding a strained shoulder/beck muscle to try and stay within the boundaries of the seat.
As I ride commuter trains almost daily, I always prefer to share a three-seater or two-seater with a woman as opposed to another man.
I've never had any negative experiences. I don't "mansprawl" or lay my baggage at the women's feet like described in the article. I just prefer the way that they smell, the way they contain themselves in their seat and their general politeness.
I don't abuse that. I stay in my space and mind my own business.
Sitting next to other guys on a train or airplane is usually not aa good of an experience. So I get why women feel this way in general.
Most men can be jerks. Loudly yapping on their cellphones, sprawling their feet, having bad smells. I get it.
That's why I hate sitting next to other men.
Well, Katy...Maybe you need to buy a stupid car so you can ride alone, you stupid woman...
Ha. A Weird Al song, I think.
Sounds like a stupid b*tch whining.
The only thing worse for a woman to receive unwanted attention, is when she no longer receives unwanted attention.
Lol!
obviously
Well, it’s because ladies are usually smaller, so they are less likely to be hanging out of their seat space than men are. Nobody likes having to sit next to anyone, but if I have to pick someone, I’m picking someone who won’t be rubbing their thigh on me and elbowing me in the ribs while they try to play on their stupid phone.
Why doesn’t she just sit next to another woman?
Ah... when nobody picked up Randy from jail... classic.
