Flight 6013 was destined for Columbus, Ohio, from Las Vegas on Wednesday when a medical emergency broke out mid-flight.
One of the pilots urgently required medical attention, leaving only one pilot in a position to fly the plane.
But thankfully the off-duty pilot from another airline was on board and ready to step in at a moment's notice.
The latest incident follows a string of reports where pilots have been taken ill mid-flight. Aviation watchers have said this was the fifth time in just three weeks.
The U.S. Department of Transportation released a safety alert for aircraft operators yesterday, waring that 'several highly visible and notable recent events demonstrate the need for continued vigilance and attention to mitigation of safety risks'.
'While the overall numbers do not reflect an increase in incidents and occurrences, the potential severity of these events is concerning,' it added.
Just this year, there have been six serious runway incursions in the past three months.

Major airlines were encouraging pilots to take early retirement during the pandemic slowdown. A cost reduction move. And some younger pilots who didn’t want the vaccine found jobs outside of the majors. When business picked up again this exposed a shortage of trained pilots, some of that due to the airlines’ own lack of planning. Now there’s a move to raise the mandatory retirement age.

I still laugh just reading the comments made in reference to the movie. You’re right...I also need to watch it again.
Otto was busy?
Didn’t they force a lot of pilots to take the jabs?
Mi6 instructions say, demand fresh proof every 5 minutes.
Get crackin’, gas_dr!
Don’t want to get a bad fitrep.
“I heard that the FAA changed their policy on pilot EKG’s and increased the limit on the number of EKG-shown problems to be able to still qualify. Whether this change was vaxx related, I do not know.”
Steve Kirsch on substack has reported this
Pretty much every airline forced the jab on Pilots. I remember thinking how stupid it was and the unions could have stopped it. The Pilots all rolled over.
You don’t own a Tesla. Or maybe it caught on fire. I ran into someone today with a big Tesla. Indian immigrant. She has a home charging station.
Ok. Are you willing to apply this commentary to the good folk like bray who demand prof? You know. Play by the same rules?
How many of the pilots were vaxxed??????????
I think the feminized, hypersensitive, gender-confused screenwriters today are incapable of penning such a classic.
Won’t work.
The fires tend to start inside the battery pack itself. A outside disconnect won’t stop that.
“Is anyone traveling with us a pilot? If so please come up front.”
I will never get over Macho Grande.
Love that movie.
I don’t fly much, but damn, I used to depend on pilots to be healthy and able to do their job. I AM NOT A PILOT. I am trapped inside an aluminum tube totally trusting the people on the flight deck hoping that I end on the ground in a gentle manner.
Thanks!!!!
Look it up gasbag. Poison peddler.
Proving his point?
One thing is a given. You will end up on the ground.
How many of these pilots were aged 60 to 65 after the FAA allowed retirement to go from 60 to 65?
