I saw him in a small venue in Lakeland, FL in the late 1970’s. One of the best concerts I ever saw. Hope you enjoy

Good old “Layla”.

Duane suggested using an Albert King lick from ‘There is Nothing I Can Do”
he liked for the beginning and he’s all over that coda. He adored Clapton.

Interesting backstory about Layla. She was in real life the wife of George Harrison.

Eric Clapton loved her. So did George.

Eric won out and married her. (Pattie Boyd)

“Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs” is, to me, the best rock album ever. Five great musicians got together to record this classic. A song that didn’t get the airtime that “Layla” did is “Anyday,” a classic in its own right. Bobby Whitlock nailed the vocals.

Rush Limbaugh forever ruined that song for me:

Shelayla, as left as she can be
Shelayla, spends her time hugging trees

This song is about unrequited love.

If one ever fell in love with a woman and never had it returned, this song would resonate. This song always takes me back to 1970s high school and a girl from my biology class.

Back when you did not have to be a biologist to know what a woman was.

This song always makes me think of the movie "Goodfellas"

"... months after the robbery they were finding bodies all over. When they found Carbone in the meat truck, he was frozen so stiff it took them two days to thaw him out for the autopsy."
