Minnesota dad uses moose antler to kill sex offender he claims was stalking daughter, police say

A dad walked into a Minnesota police station "covered in blood" and told police he beat a man with a shovel 15 to 20 times and "finished him off" with a moose antler, according to court documents.

The suspect, Levi Axtell, 27, was taken into custody and arraigned Friday on a second-degree murder charge in the death of 77-year-old Lawrence V. Scully, who was convicted of molesting a 6-year-old girl in 1979.

Axtell was suspicious of Scully and believed he was stalking his toddler daughter at her day care, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital.

Minnesota, but not anywhere near the Twin Cities. Grand Marais would be referred to as "Downstate Illinois" in that state; the middle of nowhere. More likely to not rely on local authorities to launch a multi-year investigation to resolve the issue.

I don’t see anything in the article that says the man committed any actual crimes. He had a prior conviction and maybe he was going to commit another offense but he hadn’t yet. Maybe information we don’t know would make it justified to kill him but from what is written I don’t think it is a justifiable homicide. The man who did the killing is not a smart man and did not protect his child. He is going to spend the rest of his life in prison. The girl will grow up without a father. There had to be another way to handle the situation.
