The steamship Roanoke, from New-Orleans March 1 and Havana March 5, arrived at this port yesterday morning.
All appearances indicated that the forward movement of Gen. BANKS' forces, was about to commence. It was expected that it would be inaugurated within two or three days after the departure of the Roanoke, and the intimations which we have already had through rebel sources of this effect are, therefore, in all probability, well founded.
The estates of Hon. JOHN SLIDELL, have been confiscated, as appears from the following article in the Era, of Feb. 28:
The first case that has come up in this city regularly under the Confiscation act, was brought before the Provisional Court yesterday by Mr. LAMONT, the vigilant Prosecuting Attorney, who filed an information against JOHN SLIDELL, for the seizure of his property, and calling for its confiscation, under the act of Congress declaring the property of rebels forfeit to the Government.
The information, after setting forth the authority on which it is based, to wit, the acts of Congress; and that JOHN SLIDELL is at present in rebellion against the Government, and in the service of the so-called Confederate States, as Minister or Commissioner to France, proceeds to denounce his property as forfeited and subject to confiscation for the support of the army engaged in putting down the rebellion, and asks for its seizure and sale, after due proceedings, according to law.
The schedule of the property, as furnished to the attorney by the Quartermaster's Department, covers three sheets of foolscap. It consists entirely of real estate -- houses and lots, scattered all over the city, the estimated value of which is about $230,000. The information was ordered to be filed and the matter will come up for adjudication at an early day.
