Western films with no risk of hearing a single spaniards' word

Posted on 03/04/2023 8:23:55 PM PST by Right Wing Vegan

What are some great western films, especially old, without any mexicO's language or music involved? I guess maybe Midwesters are the best chance?

what is the problem with Spanish in films based on the southwest?

Ever been there?
You seem to not understand southwest culture.

Maybe like a lot of us, he doesn’t like the Mexican language.

High Noon is a classic western.

Eastwood’s Pale Rider and Unforgiven are about as late as “classics” go.

Sergio Leone’s Once Upon A Time in the West is a must-see, IMHO.

But really, it’s hard to make a lot of Westerns without acknowledging some elements of the (North American) West as it was: with Native Americans, Spaniards, French, Mexicans, Irish, English, Blacks, and even Chinese. Even the Russians had a hand in the history of North America.

And what constitutes a “Western” can be pretty broad. Check out Quigley: Down Under with Tom Selleck and Alan Rickman. Or A Man Called Horse with Richard Harris.

I’ve never seen a movie of it, but would like to see a good one. I’ve read The Last of the Mohicans, as well as all the Leatherstocking Tales and many others by Cooper! I will watch. Thanks!

There was a Masterpiece Theater version of The Last of the Mohicans that was made, I believe, somewhere around the early to mid-70s. I remember watching the entire multi-part series in school back then and it was excellent. It was so engrossing and entertaining that my young mind couldn’t believe that we were watching it in class. Not sure where to find it these days, but it’s worth looking for. From what I recall, it was just a straight-forward dramatization without any of the modern Hollywood nonsense.

I just checked YouTube and it looks like the entire 1970s version of Last of the Mohicans is there. If you search for “Last of the Mohicans Masterpiece Theater”, you’ll find them. Also comes up if you add “BBC” instead of Masterpiece Theater, because the BBC produced it.

Define “Western Movie”.
Is it set in a certain time period?
Is it set in a certain geographical area?

You cannot separate 1800’s “cowboys” from “spanish”.
It was (and still is) intermingled.

Speaking as an actual Spaniard, loyal to King Felipe VI and all, why is that?

Mexican dialect is really rather charming. Or amusing.

I also ask why would you do that? Does Mexican Spanish offend you for some reason? Here in Texas it would be difficult to avoid in history-based films.

Western films with no risk of hearing a single spaniards' word

Am looking for Hollywood Musical Comedies from the 1940s and 50s I can enjoy without any risk of hearing or seeing a single Canadian.

Can any FReepers help?

Also looking for Godzilla films in which there are absolutely no references to cheese or other dairy products.

Thanks!

Regards,
