Jacksonville, Fl — At least one person has died in a crash on the Buckman Bridge in Mandarin this morning.
Florida Highway Patrol says a Road Ranger was headed northbound toward Orange Park around 3:30 this morning when he hit a car, sending the car into the St. Johns River.

The Buckman Bridge - they must have installed some powerful ladder magnets into the pavement there; they seem to just jump out of work trucks with little to no provocation...
I like your Tagline.
Yeah I saw my share of ladders and a lot of other objects for that matter.
Going home one Friday afternoon in bumper to bumper traffic at at least 65 mph I saw an object bouncing off of cars in front of me.....sure enough it hit my windshield and cracked it all the way across.......had just enough time to identify what it was before it hit....a lug nut......if I’d of panicked and swerved it woulda been like the big one at Daytona speedway.
From pics that bridge needs a bit taller side barriers. This happened here in Cincy about 6 years ago on the Coney Island bridge over the Ohio River east of downtown. Car dropped about 80 feet into the water. State came along after and put new barriers about 3 feet taller. Here’s a video.

In this case I guess the retainer wall didn't hold the vehicle in, but I've seen test footage of a tractor-trailer running pretty fast into those barriers at about a 45-degree angle and the barrier held.
Also, a few years ago here in Central Kentucky a tractor trailer driver tried to commit suicide by deliberately driving his rig off the Clays Ferry bridge, about 280 feet above the water. But the barrier held, so he got out of the truck and jumped.
A few years ago the wife and I were on our bike and stopped at a little general store we we familiar with on State Road 13 for a break.
Hitting the bathroom while I had the opportunity someone hsd written on the wall
