HEADQUARTERS ARMY OF THE POTOMAC, Sunday, Feb. 22, 1863.
Through the kindness of rebel friends across the creek, I have been permitted to peruse, this evening, a copy of the Richmond Examiner of Saturday, the 21st inst. The only item of news of special interest at this time is the announcement of the capture of the Union gunboat Queen of the West, in the following dispatches:
ANOTHER NAVAL SUCCESS.
THE CAPTURE OF THE YANKEE IRON-CLAD THAT RAN THE BATTERIES AT VICKSBURGH, WITH ALL HER, SUPPLIES AND ARMAMENT -- AN INGENIOUS EXPLOIT.
PORT HUDSON, Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Capt. CANNON, from Red River, brings information of the capture of the Federal steamer Queen of the West, that recently succeeded in running our batteries at Vicksburgh, at Gordon's Landing, Fort Taylor, on the Red River. The Queen of the West captured the Confederate transport Eva, No. 5, forced her pilot, JOHN BURKE, to take the wheel, and ordered him to take the boat to our batteries. BURKE feigned fear, but finally took the wheel under a Yankee guard. Upon nearing the batteries he told the Yankees they were 15 miles from them. Immediately putting close in, when she received a shot which broke the steampipe, disabling the boat, the Yankees being wholly unprepared for a fight, and suspecting no danger. BURKE jumped overboard and drifted ashore.
The boat drifted to the opposite shore, when her crew made their escape, with the exception of eighteen, who fell into our hands. The crew subsequently got on board the Yankee boat De Soto, and, with two hundred stolen negroes, effected their escppe.
The Queen of the West is now in possession of the Confederates, and will be towed to a place of safety for repairs.

I have been amiss at reading these but did so today. After reading, I felt like I knew something, so much unlike today’s news.
Battle in Utah
Looks like another massacre of Indians.
