These are large patches on rural property.
I've narrowed it down to two methods. One is to use a burner which will cost me ~$100. The other is to use a backhoe which will cost me ~$35,000.
Suggestions? This is very rural property with very large patches of blackberries.
Put up a sign that says...”Blackberries - Pick Your Own! $2 per pint!”
Migrant worker $2 jkjk
Exactly!!!!!!!!!
Spray with Ortho Brush Be Gone first.
Buy yourself a backpack sprayer that holds about 4 gallons.
Make sure it has an internal pump.
Roundup.
Borrow or buy some goats, tether them next to the bushes
Dr. Field and Brush mower.
My hands-on experience is that If you dig up and remove the roots, the bushes wonβt come back.
Burner is never going to work. You have to get the roots. Blackberry grow by the ater so they are very wet inside. You can just go out with thick gloves and long sleeves and pull them out.
For <$50k you can get a nice John Deere with a bush hog and a backhoe. You’ll thank me someday.
Tractor with a brush hog. Hire it done if you don’t have one. Cultivate the ground (or have the tractor plow it while they’re there.
A little off topic but your post brought back many happy memories picking blackberries at my grandmother’s house.
To this day hand churned ice cream with a liberal amount of self picked blackberries thrown in is still THE best ice cream I’ve ever had ever......even with scratched up arms from reaching in for the big ones. π
Good luck with your removal project π
1 gal 35/45% vinegar, 1 cup table salt, 1 tablespoon
liquid dish soap, mix-spray and have fun.
Tractor and bushhog. Or any large lawnmower. They are not that hard to get rid of. Usually one cutting.
Leave them there.
Pick them and make jam to sell at local Farmer’s Market. You will make money!
I would love to have blackberries on my (tiny) property. I have to go into the county forest to pick them.
Remove blackberry bushes??? Noez!!!!
Get a narrow brush hog and clear some paths in between the brambles, and then tie off the stalks in groups in the spring so they grow more upright and dont lean into your paths. Then in August, happy picking.
Goats.
My goats have eradicated all blackberry bushes on my fence lines.
“Dr. Field and Brush mower.”
For sure.
Powerful things...
I have the DR Trimmer Mower and it’s wonderful for my needs...no brush...
Rent some goats.
