The Richmond Enquirer, of the 20th inst. says:
"There are rumors of an advance of the Yankee army upon Middle Tennessee. Cannonading was heard on Wednesday last in front. There were also artillery reports from the direction of Beech Grove, where Gen. BUFORD, with his brigade of Kentucky cavalry, is stationed to ward off the blows that might descend in that direction. Gen. FORREST has crossed Duck River, north of Columbia, with cavalry and artillery."
The Texas Flag of the 2d inst. has accounts of an invasion of our (rebel) soil by Mexican banditti, who are stealing horses, cattle, &c. Capt. BENEVIDA's company was attacked in Zapata County, and all their horses stampeded. They also captured and hung JUADOR VELLA, Chief Justice of Zapata County. About five hundred Mexicans have been organized for the purpose of plundering our frontier, and their acts are approved by the Mexican authorities. The banditti at last accounts were on the Texas side of the Rio Grande, and some of them are under the United States flag.
GOSSIP FROM RICHMOND.
Correspondence of the Jackson Appeal.
RICHMOND, Jan. 29.
A gigantic report strides over the city. In increases in magnitude as it goes along, as the Latin poet said some two thousand years ago, fama, common report. It runs to the effect that Commissioners have arrived in Richmond, having come by the underground railroad, bearing letters to our Government from BRIGHT, of Indiana, and RICHARDSON, of Illinois, which are supposed to relate to a plan of adjustment on the basis of the admission of the Northwestern States into the Southern Confederacy, and that these Commissioners have been in conference with the President throughout the day.
Congress has been dull these two days.
