INTERESTING OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS.

The Southern papers, the receipt of which we acknowledged yesterday morning, furnish us a number of interesting extracts.

AFFAIRS AT VICKSBURGH.

The Vicksburgh correspondent of the Jackson (Miss.) Appeal writes under date of Feb. 3:

"The passage of the Federal ram Queen of the West by our batteries yesterday morning is regarded here by the non-military as a remarkable affair, and a deal of indignation is expressed against the manner in which the guns of our batteries were served. Some contend that those who were in charge of the batteries were found not only napping, but really asleep, and that the men did not get to their guns until it was too late to do any execution; others find great cause of complaint at the inaccurate shooting of our guns. Whatever may have been the cause of the very weak effort which was made to prevent her passage, it appears now to be certain that it is the policy of the command here not to interpose any very serious obstacle to their passage down the river, and some wiseacres even assume to predict that if the transports venture through the canal and come out of the river below, our lower batteries would not be over active in preventing their debouch from the canal into the Mississippi. All his is supposed to be part of a regularly laid scheme which is to entice the Federals into an inextricable trap.

By some it is believed that the ram which is now below, will make a marauding cruise down the river, and go up the Big Black, to destroy whatever property may come within her reach, and that the railroad bridge may now be in imminent danger of destruction. The fate would appear practicable at the present stage of water,

Mysterious Death in Sixteenth-Street: A Young Man Found Dead at his Own Door with a Horrible Fracture to his Skull

This man was employed at the Customs House. Wasn’t there a corruption scandal breaking out? May this fellow was the Seth Rich of his day...
