Florida Sen. Lauren Book (D-Broward) filed a new bill intended to protect animals by making it illegal to let a dog be in a driver’s lap or stick their head out of a window in the car while driving.
Additionally, Senate Bill 932 includes provisions to make it illegal to have a dog transported “on the running board, fender, hood, or roof of a motor vehicle,” as well as in a trunk, or enclosed cargo space. Dogs may also not be transported in a car that is being towed.
On top of those restrictions, the bill would require dogs be secured in a crate appropriate for the size of the dog while in a motor vehicle on a public roadway, be restrained with a safety harness or seat belt other than a neck restraint, or be under the physical control of someone other than the driver if in a car.
Dogs transported in open truck beds for pickups must be in a dog crate that allows them to have good footing, be safe from inclement weather, protected from direct sunlight, and have good ventilation.
The crate must also allow the dog to be able to turn around normally, stand or sit, and lie down in a natural position while the crate is secured to the pickup truck.

First they came for the dogs....
Dogs shouldn’t be on the driver’s lap.
Surprised there’s not health codes on them being in restaurants and where food is sold?
Must be nice to live in an area where this is the most pressing problem......
How about declawing politicians by removing their fingers and sewing their lips shut to reduce the capability to make stupid $}{!t like this bill up ?
I’m guessing that she wouldn’t be ok with My Racoon Zoro that used to ride with his hands on the drivers big rectangle outside mirror of the Suburban and feet on the window rolled up about an inch while going down the road.
How will my dog know she’s breaking the law? She can’t read.
My two dogs favorite activity is sticking their heads out the window and getting their sniffs. I take them for a ride every day I can at least once (usually just a half-dozen miles) just for that purpose. If a bill like that passed here, I would have to be an outlaw.
Good Grief can’t anybody mind their own business anymore?
Just because you don’t “like” it doesn’t mean other folks have to agree with you.
Democrats. Making everything against the law. 🙄
my Rotty used to stick his head out the scout and just hoooowl...
Makes sense. No time for critical thinking when one is just trying to keep the children and pets from becoming snacks.
“Surprised there’s not health codes on them being in restaurants and where food is sold?“
There ARE health codes and laws against this. Many restaurants and stores put signs up saying no dogs allowed inside. It the dog nutters just ignore all that and bring the dogs in anyway, and the management ignores it because they don’t want to make a scene or get an unfavorable review.
Ever politely ask a dog owner to please control their dog? They just scream at you. It’s worse than TDS.
