What Kind of Military Does Our Country Need?
American Thinker ^ | 18 Feb, 2023 | Anthony Lentini

Exactly how woke do we want to make the people who defend our freedom?

Recent incursions into American airspace by Chinese spy balloons, an increasingly threatening Chinese military, and an escalating war in Ukraine that pits NATO forces against Russia all point to the need for a strong, tough, professional U.S. military that can win wars and protect the homeland.

The United States spends more on defense than any other country in the world. In fact, our 2021 total of $801 billion exceeded the $777 billion spent that year by the next seven countries — China, India, the U.K., Russia, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Korea — combined.

What do we get for our money? If 2020's disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal is any indication, the answer is not much. After twenty years of war with nearly 6,200 U.S. military and contractor deaths, our precipitous departure left behind some 9,000 American citizens (1); countless Afghan allies; and more than $7 billion in sophisticated weapons, munitions, and military equipment (2).

Much has been said and written about America's increasingly woke, politicized military and its negative impacts on recruiting and readiness. Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, attracted widespread criticism when he spoke of "white rage" and reportedly hid nuclear codes from President Trump while telling his Red Chinese counterpart he would provide advance warning of any planned U.S. attack on China.

Even cadets and midshipmen at the nation's military academies are undergoing woke indoctrination in Critical Race Theory, transgenderism, "toxic masculinity," and so-called Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity, which many military experts fear will harm unit integrity, morale, and war-fighting capability. And now there is a new wrinkle at our academies: the Spectrum Club, which "actively bridges the relationship between Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Questioning (LGBTQ) cadets [and midshipmen]

Having a safe space in a war. What could be safer?

The military’s mission is to win wars, hopefully by making the other poor sob die for his country. (Apologies to G. S. Patton.)

Well, now that we see that Russia can’t even take Ukraine, we can spend less on Europe and NATO.

It’s all about China:
Invest in B21 Raider Next Gen Bomber.
F35s
NGAD Next Gen Air Dominance Fighter.
DDGX Next Gen Destroyers

Would be nice they did “protect the homeland” at a little , instead of allowing millions of illegals to invade and permanently change the fabric of society

First we must decide what kind of military we are going to give to the Ukes. Then we decide what kind of military we will arm the globalists at NATO with. Then we must decide how much military to arm the US globalist world policeman with. After tallying how much to borrow to do all of that, THEN we get to decide what type military AMERICA actually needs.

"It’s all about China."

The war has already started.. The battlefield, at this time, is in DC.

If "WE THE PEOPLE" don't get off our duff, and get our heads in the game, it's going to get REAL nasty REAL soon..

Our enemy is getting bolder by the day... :(

$777 billion spent to protect the Homeland and the US Southern Border from ever being CLOSED to invaders.

Cheap at twice the price.

Superior in quality and quantity. Abolish the BRAC as Clinton used it.

It’s sad. Military represents power. Why have power if you’re not going to use it? Democrats get pushed into it by our enemies. They make us appear weak.

Defund the Army. Give the money to thew Army and Navy. FedGov cannot be trusted with a viable standing army.

Diego Garcia is out in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It’s nowhere but very strategic. A thousand or so people were removed to make way for the military. The tactics to move them were mean. It was necessary. One nuke could probably take it out and I’m afraid the military won’t do enough to keep the hostile ships/aircraft away when the rats are in charge. Just look at the USS Cole(Clinton). Moozlems in a rubber dingy were allowed to row up to the side of the ship and waved at the guards on board. Guards weren’t allowed to shoot. Then there’s Beruit(Reagan). Marines were sleeping ducks. No barricades to prevent the suicide bomber driving right into the lobby. Marines are amphibious, am I right? Law enforcers no.

The answer is a smaller footprint world-wide. Reintroduce the Mansfield Amendment.

From my perspective, it’s the Dem’s who have deliberately made us weak. Once upon a time there were fighter, bomber, recon, etc. units operating out of multiple USAF and ANG bases per state. Now after the BRAC downsizing blitz of the 1990’s, some strategically critical states are down to skeleton crews at any of their bases to have survived BRAC, not to mention bases other than USAF/ANG. IMHO, 9/11 may not have happened if not for the actions of The Clinton administration and the BRAC (Base Re-Alignment and Closure).

What is the point of a word like “need” here when “need” is defined by whomever for whatever reason. Once “need” was obvious and rational: The ability to fight full-scale war in two separate theaters. This sort of ability will put a damper on anyone thinking of going off on a big adventure . We need the ability to strike fear into the heart of anyone anywhere anytime. When we can’t do that there’s going to be trouble.

High standards, less men. Less of a strategic footprint, Europe take care of Europe, etc. We are subsidizing the shipping lanes and routes. Why not let companies provide for their own safety.

This has been the mission for quite some time. Per the advertisement, our navy is now “A Global Force for Good”. It’s also a place where young people can go and get Left-wing indoctrination while preparing to go police various parts of the world for the benefit of our political class and its donors.
