H.R. 187 – Default Prevention Act

H.R. 187 guarantees the sovereign debt of the United States Government by authorizing the Treasury Secretary to continue to borrow to pay interest and principal due on the debt, even in the event of an impasse concerning the debt limit.

“If credit markets doubt that their loans to the federal government will be repaid in full and on time, we could suffer an interest rate spike that could sink our nation in a sea of red ink,” said Rep. McClintock. “This bill is an absolute guarantee that the sovereign debt of the United States is solid and will be honored. The full faith and credit of the United States should not hang in the balance every time there’s a fiscal debate in Washington.”

As if we weren’t already “in a sea of red ink!”

Congress at work...

So we keep borrowing $1 trillion per year which is projected to be $2 trillion per year shortly and the interest on that debt consumes ALL tax collections. Then what? Default is inevitable. We've been drowning in the "sea of red ink" for decades and it's nothing but a positive feedback loop.

“continue to borrow to pay interest and principal due on the debt” -— Dave Ramsey would blow a gasket if a caller said he was doing this!

What would Dave Ramsey say about that?

OK ... I read the article. The rest of his proposals are rather California-centric, but not unreasonable on their faces.

McClintock ran as Arnold’s Lt. Gov in 2006. Arnold offered him no support at all. Together they got 60% in the Calif recall election-2003.

Arnold could have done the party a big favor had McLintock won with him. Arnold could have resigned at some point and given the job to a real conservative but he made too many statements beforehand regarding his problems with the ‘hard right’.
No way any Rino’s gonna get away with that again.

It’s sad because Arnold just might have been a conservative when he called for the special election-2005. He put up 5 truly conservative propositions. All failed. Special election means low turnout. The conservative could have carried it but our voters didn’t show up for him. These folks were dumb enough to go for the flash in 2002 when they nominated Bill Simon Jr. who had only his name to run on-a joke.

I was a big fan of conservative McClintock in that early 2000s era.

For all of his so-called “conservatism,” McClintock voted to send 10’s of billions of dollars to that money-laundering machine, Ukraine! Why? Is any of that money coming back to his campaign coffers or his donors? Jus’ axin’

Bill Simon was the victim of a Gray Davis dirty trick.

In the summer of 2002, Davis got the Los Angeles District Attorney to indict William E. Simon & Sons (Simon's father's company) for fraud in a pay telephone business. A Los Angeles Superior Court jury found the company guilty and ordered the company to pay $78 million in damages for fraud and other misconduct. Davis then used this lawsuit to bash Simon's credentials as a successful businessman in negative campaign ads.

Simon lost the election for Governor, and a few months later the appeals court overturned the verdict and nullified the penalty.

A year later, Davis was thrown out of office in the recall election for massive "pay-to-play" schemes.

Doesn’t matter. His campaign was run terribly. He even lost Deb Saunders. His photo-op with W in the WH was supposed to be filmed. No fight in Simon. I read his dad’s book. That’s the reason I sent Simon $50. Waste of money. You can’t blame the rats for doing what they do.
