"Blue Letter" is a song written by brothers Richard and Michael Curtis, first released by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac on their eponymous 1975 album, Fleetwood Mac. It was the only song on the album not written by a band member.
Brothers Michael and Richard Curtis met the young couple Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, then known as rock duo Buckingham Nicks and unaffiliated with Fleetwood Mac, through Polydor Records. The group of four became fast friends and worked together on two demos. The first was “Blue Letter”, which, like many of the songs on the Fleetwood Mac album, was intended for the second Buckingham Nicks LP.
According to drummer Mick Fleetwood’s autobiography, Play On: Now, Then, and Fleetwood Mac, the choice to record “Blue Letter” towards the end of the production of the Fleetwood Mac album, slated for release in 1975, was very last minute. While they were recording the album at Sound City with producer Keith Olsen, they heard Michael and Richard Curtis recording the song and decided to add it.

Thanks for posting, listening to it now, remastered version though. Such a great album, such a great band.
In fact, even that almost didn't happen because the band initially didn't want Stevie but Lindsey told them that they were a package deal. Take both of them or they would get neither.
The band was concerned that Christie McVie would resent having another female join the band so they ended up all going out to dinner together to see how compatible they would be. Well, Christie hit it off right away with Stevie and the rest is musical history.
Their first album together did a slow burn on the charts and the first hit was sung by Christie ("Over My Head"). However, when the Stevie sung "Rhiannon" got massive airplay in 1976, the album finally hit number one and went on to go multiple platinum.
Then "Rumours" was released in early 1977 and Fleetwood Mac went into the stratosphere.
Though in my opinion, Fleetwood Mac were at their creative peak with the "Tusk" and "Mirage" albums (1979 and 1982 respectively).
Stevie Nicks...very pretty girl.
Amazing that this band was and is so popular. The first CD that I bought was Rumors way back when the 2nd gen of CD players came out.
‘Stevie Nicks...very pretty girl.’
indeed; and, for my money, Christine McVie was mouth watering back in the day...
imho, anyway...
“and, for my money, Christine McVie was mouth watering back in the day...”
Yeah, she was. She had those beautiful doe eyes. Too bad we lost her a couple months back.
