I guess were down to 95...
I’ve always liked Nena’s orginal song, even though it was massively overplayed, akin ‘Afternoon Delight’.
It sounds good in either language, and I’m far from fluent in my German.
Never heard of Nena, but she’s got some chops and moves.
One commenter on YT wrote “The German lyrics for the song are about two countries at war with each other. One of whom sees the balloons and assumes they’re under attack. They send out fighter pilots, the other country responds. War ministers in each country encourage the war as a power grab.”
Nena did fill out her leather britches very nicely.
What she’s singing in German is not even close to what she sings in the English version...here is the correct translated version:
The mid-’80s were such a freakin’ great time. Vietnam and Carter’s malaise of the ‘70s were history. Reagan was president, John Paul II was pope, Thatcher was running England, Helmut Kohl in West Germany. Conservatives had the upper hand in the West. Business was great. Movies were fun. Music was great. The West was firing on all cylinders. Sure, there was the Cold War with the USSR as referenced in this song, but there was the sense that we were winning.
A lot has gone wrong... very wrong... since then.
One could make a pretty long playlist of songs about nuclear war.

Just FYI, but it’s Michael Berry.
Michael Burry is what Shirley Q Liquor calls him as she’s also from Orng, TX. (as she pronounces it, anyway).
And, my apologies, I have no idea who Michael Burry is, as Michael Berry is a regional(ish) conservative radio guy in Houston, New Orleans, Portland and some other places.
