In a new study to be presented today at the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine's (SMFM) annual meeting, The Pregnancy Meeting—and published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology—researchers will unveil findings that suggest pregnant people who do not have diabetes but deliver a large-for-gestational age baby are at an increased risk of developing prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes 10-14 years later.
Studies show that diabetes in pregnancy—also known as gestational diabetes—puts a pregnant person at greater risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later in life. Gestational diabetes is also a common cause of babies who are large-for-gestational age (LGA). LGA is defined as infants who weigh more than 90 percent of all babies of the same gestational age. LGA babies are more likely to be admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit and develop health complications later in life, including obesity and Type 2 diabetes themselves.
What has not been studied, until now, is whether someone who does not have gestational diabetes but gives birth to an LGA baby is also at risk of developing diabetes later in life.

“Pregnant people”
Woketards. No credibility.
I was not a fat woman and I had a 9.5 lb baby boy. I am 68 on no medications and my son is 39. We are both healthy. I have to point out, though, that now I AM fat, but still no diabetes. Hoping that doesn’t change!
I question this being some new discovery. My mother told me this exact thing years ago. Like 50 years ago!
New study....fat babies make fat unhealthy grownups.
Who’da thunk it?
Why limit it to “people”? After all, we don’t want to offend animals.
I guess they men women
Too afraid to say it?
This description of pregnant people is being used by liberals nowadays, because the talk of pregnant women ignores a tiny number of transitional transgender men who are still have all the female parts and can become pregnant.
Talking about pregnant women offends the sensibilities of the leftist, because it ignores the fact that a biological female who identifies as a male could also be pregnant.
And nowadays, it as a crime against humanity, to offend the sensibilities of the leftists who are pushing all this nonsense
Waiting for the asteroid...
How the hell did these mentally ill degenerate trannies get so powerful so fast.
New study my ass. I had my second son on February 9, 1971. Because he weighed 9 lbs. 5 ozs., they made me do a glucose tolerance test because they said women who have large babies may develop diabetes years later. The child may also develop diabetes later in life as well. Fast forward to around 1998, I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes, which I treat with oral meds and diet. My son, now 52 has so far shown no signs. So they had to do a new study for something they already knew 52 years ago.
See my post at #31. I had gained about 25 pounds with that pregnancy. Was not obese, and my second son came 3 weeks later than expected. Doctor always said the baby gains most of its weight in the last 3 weeks. I had terrible heart burn, and was in the ER the night before his delivery because I had gas trapped in my esophagus. The doctor gave me bottles of Gelusil to take in the meantime, but said I would likely be back to deliver him soon. I told the doctor I was going home to get some sleep. Two hours later, my water broke.
The connection between WOMEN with diabetes and high birth rate has been known for years.
Nothing But Lies.
There is only one solution for it? Turn the “OFF” Switch NOW!
Wokeism run wild
Kinda like the N word. No one can say it so how do we know what it is?
Large babies and diabetes was well known 40 plus years ago.
“pregnant people” - it amazes me how quickly the media is co-opted by the delusionals.
How are they able to do that? They make up just a timy portion of the population.
I SHAKE MY HEAD each time I see something like this. I wish I had that amount of power. Considering I’m in the huge majority one would think we too would have a bit of power.
