Russia, Ukraine, and the Dynamics of Colonization
KRYTYKA - Thinking Ukraine ^ | January 2023 | Alex Gordon (Israeli physicist)

Such vast possessions and such successful colonization, which took Russia to the Pacific Ocean, created in the Russian authorities past and present a consciousness typical of the metropolis. Therefore, any secession of former colonies such as Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Georgia, and Ukraine was painful for the imperial consciousness of the Russian authorities.

Bookmarked. Interesting article trying to describe the Russian view of itself and its actions from their point of view, or their point of view as others see it.

Today’s Russia is closer to a fascist economic system than it is to a capitalist one.

Sadly, you may be more correct in the second half of your statement than I am happy to admit. Although I was referring to the Soviet-version of communism championed by Khrushchev, Trump and the MAGA movement is a counteroffensive to the march of neo-Marxist ideology prevelant in the Democratic Party and the American Left today.

You are too ignorant to discuss such things, sorry.
Fascism is a form of capitalism.

That’s a very Soviet take.

Fascism is a collectivist system that elevates the state over the individual, with the state taking a central role in directing and controlling the economy, particularly in investment and foreign trade. Although nominal property ownership is maintained under fascism, the property owners are only agents of the state and the state has the legal right to seize the property when the owners are acting against the interest of the state.

Under capitalism economic decisions are primarily made by individuals and private businesses in the market for their own self interest and not by the state. Individuals also have more freedoms and the state’s role is limited to enforcing laws and protecting private property.

As practiced, capitalism is under attack in the West by increasing encroachments by the state. Whether you call these encroachments fascism or socialism depends on one’s point of view.

It is not America’s role to help the EU colonize the Ukraine.

It is absolutely absurd that you should write about the E.U. "colonizing" Ukraine when, in fact, it's Putin's Russia that is doing that.

Now describe the procedures used to implement the last sentence of your first paragraph, and tell me what is collectivist about fascism. Apart from this point, tell me what exactly in your first paragraph America is missing.

Regarding “capitalism” the term itself is flawed, invented by communists and primarily used by communists as well.

I find the individuals abusing the term suspicious.

So what term or expression would you suggest as an alternative? (I, personally, like "Free Market Capitalism" - the voluntary exchange of goods and services with a minimum of govt. interference.)

Don't be coy! You ought to be shouting your "alternative phrase" from the rooftops, making it your tagline, or such!

“Correct. Clinton wasted that opportunity and we ended up with Pooptin.”

And Putin is doing what any national leader would do when he watched an aggressor nation who sticks their nose in regional affairs not relative to them.

Putin is not the aggressor..NATO and the US are.

Stalin enforced a policy of internal population replacement for troublesome areas. After starving out areas of Ukraine he replaced the population with ethnic Russians. Then a few years later when the Germans came the Ukrainians greeted them as liberators only to have a different brand of ethnic cleansing imposed on them. And when the Russians returned, guess what what, more ethnic cleansing. There is still a remnant of Ukrainians who have lived through all of that.

Thise regional matters were caused by Putin invading in 2014.

His invasion I 2014 violated the 1994 Budapest agreement in which Russia signed that it would respect Ukraine’s borders

His invasion was the result of NATO trying to set up shop at the border of the Russian Federation after Russia was told that there would be no NATO east of East Germany.

Besides that. THE Ukraine is in the ICC on charges of crimes against humanity for the treatment of ethnic Russians they killed outright (genocide) from 2014 till the start of this conflict.

Aside from THAT. the Poles passed a law Feb 1st of 2022 banning Bandera ideology. You know, the scum sucking Ukrainians who committed massive genocide during ww2.

Aside from that..these same scum sucking Ukrainians are still committing crimes against ethnic Hungarians in west Ukraine.

“His invasion was the result of NATO trying to set up shop at the border of the Russian Federation after Russia was told that there would be no NATO east of East Germany.”

That is false on so many levels

1. Russia was not told nor promised anything of the sort.
- the USSR was discussing with the USA, France and the UK about allowing the Germanies to reunite. Note: the USSR, not Russia
- the USSR was told not NATO troops in Eastern Germany.
- at that point in 1989, the Soviet bloc was still around and there was every indication it would last a long time more, do NATO moving into those areas was not dreamed of by either side nor discussed.
- so no promise was made to “Russia” about Poland, the Baltic etc joining NATO as it was not even a dream at that point
- Gorbachev himself said that mo such promise was made

2. Russia has bordered a NATO country since 1999 when Poland joined NATO. In fact, as of 2005 Russia bordered 4 NATO countries. With no problems for Russia

3. Ukraine and Georgia applied to join NATO in 2008 and that was rejected by Germany and France for fear of “provoking Russia”. 6 weeks after that rejection Russia invaded Georgia. 6 years later Ukraine was invaded. The conclusion is that if a country neighbouring Russia is not part of NATO then Russia invades

Next, the charges against Ukraine are

1. Still being investigated

2. Were brought up in march 2022 to divert from Russian atrocities and Russian losses.

3. It is very convenient that they were brought up 8 years later during the failure of the second Russian invasion of Ukraine

“Ukrainians are still committing crimes against ethnic Hungarians in west Ukraine.”

There are no such crimes. Not even Orban claims that. Why are you repeating lies?

The 156,000 ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine are fighting off the Russian invasion

https://www.laprensalatina.com/the-ethnic-hungarian-fighting-russians-disinformation-in-ukraine/

ethnic Hungarian Viktor Troshki is helping Ukrainian forces repel the Russian invasion.

When the Russian invasion of Ukraine started last year, Troshki decided to take a break from his job as a mathematics professor at a local university to enlist in the Ukrainian army.

“I only started looking into the recent news about Ukrainian-Hungarian relations recently, after receiving calls from Hungarian journalists,” Troshki tells Efe.

Having received an award from the Hungarian Academy of Science for its research in March, he quickly became the point of reference for people in Hungary wanting to find out whether the information provided by various members of the Viktor Orban government about discrimination of ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine was true.

“Suffice it to say that I taught classes in Hungarian in the main university of the (Zakarpattia) region,” Troshki says, refuting claims that the minority’s rights to use their language are being limited.

“Ethnic Ukrainians and Hungarians would live in complete peace and unity if not for the involvement of politicians,” he adds.

Troshki explains that he has always been open about his ethnicity and has never experienced any discrimination because of it.

Zakarpattia, which used to belong to the Austrian-Hungarian empire, Czechoslovakia, Soviet Union and Ukraine, has been home to up to 150,000 Hungarians along with more than 1 million Ukrainians.

His grandfather was repressed and deported to Donbas because of his Hungarian ethnicity, while towns and villages were pillaged – just like in Ukraine’s Bucha in 2022.

Troshki wanted to do anything in his power to prevent the Russian army from reaching his home again.

And back to your false statement about a promise regarding NATO

https://www.brookings.edu/blog/up-front/2014/11/06/did-nato-promise-not-to-enlarge-gorbachev-says-no/

Gorbachev and the documents show ZERO promise not to enlarge

Russia behind the Headlines has published an interview with Gorbachev, who was Soviet president during the discussions and treaty negotiations concerning German reunification. The interviewer asked why Gorbachev did not “insist that the promises made to you [Gorbachev]—particularly U.S. Secretary of State James Baker’s promise that NATO would not expand into the East—be legally encoded?” Gorbachev replied: “The topic of ‘NATO expansion’ was not discussed at all, and it wasn’t brought up in those years. … Another issue we brought up was discussed: making sure that NATO’s military structures would not advance and that additional armed forces would not be deployed on the territory of the then-GDR after German reunification. Baker’s statement was made in that context… Everything that could have been and needed to be done to solidify that political obligation was done. And fulfilled.”

>Russia EXPRESSLY violated the Budapest Agreement which it SIGNED promising to respect Ukrainian borders, you say no one cares?? Typical Russian double-speak

the Budapest memorandum

According to the three memoranda,[5] Russia, the US and the UK confirmed their recognition of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine becoming parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and effectively abandoning their nuclear arsenal to Russia and that they agreed to the following:

1. Respect the signatory’s independence and sovereignty in the existing borders.[6]
2. Refrain from the threat or the use of force against the signatory.
3. Refrain from economic coercion designed to subordinate to their own interest the exercise by the signatory of the rights inherent in its sovereignty and thus to secure advantages of any kind.
4. Seek immediate Security Council action to provide assistance to the signatory if they “should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used”.

5. Refrain from the use of nuclear arms against the signatory.

___________

Russia signed this and has violated protocols 1,2,3 and 5

Russia promised to not only respect Ukraine’s 1994 borders, including Crimea, but also
to
1. Refrain from the threat or the use of force against the signatory.
And to
2. Refrain from economic coercion designed to subordinate to their own interest the exercise by the signatory of the rights inherent in its sovereignty and thus to secure advantages of any kind.

Russia has violated every one of those agreements which were made with Ukraine with the only condition from Ukraine being Ukraine giving up its nuclear weapons.

Russia reneges on international law and promises

I find it strange that no one is mentioning the Budapest memorandum in which The Ukraine gave their nuclear weapons and ICBMs to Russia in exchange for secure borders and protection guaranteed by the US and UK (which they reneged on when Putin invaded Crimea).
