They don’t seem to know WHY he went into arrest. If it was the hit maybe he shouldn’t push his luck. That hit didn’t look particularly rough.
If I was him I think I’d take up knitting 😏
I highly doubt “the hit” put him into cardiac arrest. Course I am not a doctor. I am a lawyer and I bet I could put together a case though.
I have seen harder hits on Wipe Out.
If it was because of the hit, it would have more to do with the timing of the contact rather than the intensity of it.
If it was because of the hit, the chances of it happening again are slim. If there was minimal damage to the heart, there isn’t any real reason not to play again.
I recognize that there are a lot of “ifs” in those sentences. No one except he and his doctors know what is really happening.
The hit was more of a wrap up than a major collision.
This reminds me of the Reggie Lewis situation with the Boston Celtics. He fell down during a game, but got up and finished the second half. Then he went from cardiologist to cardiologist, finding one who would let him play with observation, rather than installing a pacemaker, which would have limited his athletic abilities. One day, in the post-season, he was casually shooting buckets in a Boston College gym, and collapsed with a fatal heart attack due to arrythmia.
The off button exists. Luckily it’s very random. Chris Pronger played over a decade after he took a puck to the chest that pushed the off button. Never another problem.
