Seven more Memphis cops are now under investigation in connection with the death of Tyre Nichols last month - bringing the total number up to 13.
City of Memphis Chief Legal Officer Jennifer Sink told a heated city council meeting that a statement of charges related to those under investigation could come as soon as this week.
The widening of the investigation comes as the national outrage over Nichols' death led five officers who were filmed beating the 29-year-old to be charged with his murder.
In total six officers have been fired in connection with the fateful traffic stop. The names of the latest set of officers to be investigated have not been released.
The statement of charges announced by Ms Sink is administrative, which is separate from any criminal charges which would have to be issued from the D.A.'s office or from federal authorities.
Following the arrest of five black police officers who beat Nichols' to death, a sixth Memphis cop, Preston Hemphill, was fired from the force on February 3 for his role in the tragedy.
Hemphill was one of the officers who initially pulled Nichols over in a traffic stop, and fired his taser as Nichols ran away. Hemphill was not on the scene when Nichols was caught and beaten to death.
Following the tragedy, two Shelby County Sheriff's deputies have also been relieved of their duties pending an ongoing investigation, but have not been charged.
A further three Memphis Fire Department employees were also fired on January 30 for failing to assist Nichols as he lay dying during the January 7 beating. They have also not been criminally charged.
The three individuals released by the fire department comprised of two EMTs, Robert Long and JaMichael Sandridge, and Lieutenant Michelle Whitaker.

A guy who used to work for the MPD called a local talk show and said this was personal.
His friends who were still in the MPD all knew it was.
Tyre had been sleeping with one of the officer’s ex.
He said the charges would likely be upgraded to first degree murder.
Sure sounds like this whole thing was planned in advance and a lot of people knew about it, which makes it premediated and the Felony Murder Rule should apply to all those involved, this would include everyone that knew in advance. Get the ROPE
Youtube is talking about that all over the place. One thing I know for sure is that was hit and these cops were thugs.
These cops will be dahmerized in prison.
Under the Felony Murder Rule, every last person involved is GUILTY of Murder, regardless of the level of their involvement as long as they were involved is the Standard,
They have to keep expanding the “guilty” pool until they get some white cops to make a racist narrative.
That would seem to make it premeditated.

In light of that, I don’t think it was wise of Biden ( what’s new?) to have Tyre’s parents at the SOTU. It seems prejudicial, along the lines of Obama’s “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”
Maybe he should be charged with Obstruction for trying to taint the Jury Pool??

Doubt it. There is a difference between being a knowing accomplice and MAYBE having rendered insufficient care. And arresting someone is not an inherently deadly behavior.

I guess thug cops doing thug cop things doesn’t empower the racial grievance huxters. Bigots need to find some white faces to hate or the story won’t stay in the news.

They were in charge, this is why there is a chain of command. And Tyre wasn’t sleeping with everyone’s wife.
It might describe a baseless traffic stop and feckless non-immobilization done as a pretext to scare the kid witless, prompt him to run for his life, start a foot chase, and give the police an excuse to begin a premeditated six-on-one beatdown.

If it was a pretextual stop motivated by personal animus, then the stop itself was illegal and there’s your felony to fulfill the felony murder rule.
