I'm just wondering what might have happened if it had a nuclear payload and it was set to go off after dropping to 75,000 feet or so?
Why would China set off a nuke over random shoreline near Charleston? So we'd go to war with China?
You underestimate the ability of the Chinese to encapsulate the biovirus weapons constituent gain of function parts which would infect wild and domestic animals first before finding a foot hold in the human population..
Perfect Chinese type plan, a whole nation defeated without a shot, all the people dead and all the buildings and resources still intact for occupation .
Details, details
“Regrettable collateral damage” as the mil spokesdroids say

What blows my mind is how many people believe anything that comes from this administration. Biden says he ordered it shot down on Wednesday. If I’m not mistaken the news started reporting on it yesterday. I could be wrong.
But if Biden is actually telling the truth then that means they knew about probably Tuesday, maybe even Monday.
Worried about where it would land?? Look at all that wide open space it crossed.
They learned something from it. I guess stuff they couldn’t get when it was on the ground.
I read that a US plane, a few years ago, was forced to land in China. They sent it back in boxes from the story I was watching.
This was a test or a dry run for something in the future. It doesn’t have to be a nuke. It can be an EMP or biological weapon. We don’t know what else China has been doing in their biological research of viruses. A lab in the US has developed a covid virus that kills 80% of the time. It is likely that China has developed the same virus in their labs.
A balloon might make a good delivery system for such a virus. Drop it over LA or or Seattle and let it do its thing.
This is the kind of thing that Wiley Coyote would do to Road Runner.
Nay say. A nuclear weapon cannot be properly detonated through physical impact. The best you’d get is a dirty bomb.
Better yet how about Canada
Nay. EMP induced by a nuclear weapon does not cover a large area. Besides, EMP is generated only when detonated at the very fringes of space. That one wasn’t high enough.
You need to do more reading. A single nuke causes EMP damage within a very limited area around the blast. If a very high yield weapon is detonated at the fringe of space (much higher that the one you are talking about) you will have slightly wider spread affect. EMP is not the end of the world. Every lightning bolt makes EMP.
Fallout is made by low altitude bursts, no high ones. The fallout is the dirt, buildings, and other things that get turned into dust. High bursts have no such medium with which to work.
Order the book “One Second After.” Pretty much sums it up. It’s a life changer. You’ve been warned.
EMP..
What if it were biological
What if it were chemical
What if it were a dirty radio active bomb
Point being we’d have been F if we’re any of these. Should have been destroyed before it got into ANY US territory.
A weak as President and a sad ass military and intelligence agency.
The shoot down was fake. They had already delivered their data load from the run and all that was shot down was junk. No data, surely it had alread been transmitted.
FAKE NEWS by a FAKE POTUS.
The EMP threat is only a modest danger, and only close to the point of detonation.
Most nuclear weapons have an impact fuze as a backup if the main fuze fails. Yes, you get a dirty blast. But if you are targeting a hard target you will almost always get a dirty blast.
I do not believe that at all.
Never have believed that.
“Experts” here want to argue the point. Accusing me of endangering millions of people, which is horse crap.
I refuse to accept it for fact and don’t buy their rage and arguments.
Well, you’re talking about 1.
Given this administrations response I’m not confident in any way shape or form.
While I’m glad you know more than me about an EMP, you describing technical specs doesn’t mean a whole lot. They know they can do it.
I think the Vietnam vets called it, probing.
Yes, that all stands to reason. The hard targets require a on-target detonation; and, even a dud shouldn’t go to waste.
I think it was probing as well. The instrument package it carried probably got information that was unattainable using a satellite. Detectors for locating active missile silos come to mind. That information would have already been up-linked to a satellite long before it was shot down.
Not nearly high enough and would have to be a very large device to do anything of consequence
