(CNN) — News that the Pentagon is monitoring a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon in the skies over the continental United States raises a series of questions — not least among them, what exactly it might be doing.
US officials have said the flight path of the balloon, first spotted over Montana on Thursday, could potentially take it over a “number of sensitive sites” and say they are taking steps to “protect against foreign intelligence collection.”

I gonna go out on a limb here and say, “spying?”
I think the best way to protect against foreign intelligence collection, would be if it wasn’t there in the first place.
And how did it get there undetected?
They are hard targets. No radar crossection and the cellular structure, immune to gunfire.
Maybe it’s delivering thousands of little white cartons of Chinese food.

I understand from the current Pentagon response that they wouldn’t mind shooting it down if it was over the ocean, but right now it might fall on someone’s head and kill or injure them.
Since they figured the balloon can’t get much more information than a satellite, so no big risk then they won’t shoot it down while it is above populated areas.
Better yet, how did it get loose in the US? I think it was prepared and set loose in the US. Nobody is telling us that

If its even true, he should have been fired on the spot and brought up on charges.
