An Ohio man has died after being shot by police who believed he was a burglar – but his family says he had only been cleaning out his late grandmother’s house.
Police in Wyoming, a city outside Cincinnati, encountered Joe Frasure Jr. 28, while responding about 1 a.m. Monday to a 911 call that a few people were trying to break into an apartment on Durrell Avenue, NBC News reported.
Cops found Frasure Jr. and his father, Joe Frasure Sr., at the rear of the building, where the younger man refused orders to get out of a minivan, Police Chief Brooke Brady said.
“The minivan reversed at a high rate of speed, before hitting a tree, at which point the vehicle accelerated rapidly at our officers,” she said in a video statement, according to the news outlet.

I think our definition of “cleaning out a house” is different than Joe’s.

Yes, those are 3 stupid mistakes. The problem is, did it happen that way? I just don’t give the police my automatic support anymore. Perhaps the account is true. I’m going to wait to see.

Refusing to follow police orders and driving at them in a minivan?
Something about this story doesn’t smell right.

Right. that's why I'm skeptical about initial self-service police accounts.
Indeed. WHen 3 separate officers give conflicting orders, you get shot by the two you are "not obeying".
I found the case I was thinking of : the killing of Caroline Small in Georgia, 2011. The two who shot her bragged about their marksmanship, hit her from six feet away. The police department was allowed to present an animation to the grand jury with one of the police cars blocking her in left out and her car going through the gap striking the officers. One of the cops bragged he hit her in the nose, her head exploded.
This cop was allowed to run around with a gun after he began threatening his ex-wife and showing erratic behavior. He killed his ex-wife, her boyfriend and himself 4 or 5 years after he killed Mrs. Small, orphaned his young children.
Legal or not, it LOOKS bad to an observer who doesn't understand the situation, and it looks much worse when it happens in the middle of the night, when burglars prefer to work.
