PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. — It’s Groundhog Day and people are waiting to learn whether a furry critter in a western Pennsylvania town will predict an early spring or six more weeks of winter.
People will gather Thursday at Gobbler’s Knob as members of Punxsutawney Phil’s “inner circle” summon him from his tree stump at dawn to learn if he has seen his shadow. According to folklore, if he sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, spring comes early

Sounds about normal for all weather forecasters ... a significant number of which profess to be able to predict — within 1/10 of a degree — what the warming will be a hundred years from now.

Maybe they could teach Phil to flip a coin. Then his accuracy would at least improve to 50%.
I trust the ducks that return to our pool every year way more than Phil ... & they just flew in a couple of days ago — we may still have a week or two of nasty, cold weather, but they almost always arrive close to the time our weather will be breaking towards Spring.
Our daffodils and crocus are coming up, as well.

Six more weeks of winter: Sun Prairie Jimmy sees his shadow (Wisconsin)
SUN PRAIRIE, WI — Sun Prairie’s Jimmy the Groundhog saw his shadow on a sunny Thursday morning, meaning six more weeks of winter.
Mayor Paul Esser helped translate the prognostication from Jimmy, who stayed in his cage on stage.*
Jimmy predicted an early start to spring the past two years, last predicting six more weeks of winter in 2020.
As always, officials in Sun Prairie say Jimmy is never wrong, and will take the blame for losing his message in translation if the prognostication does not come to pass.
Jimmy’s cousin in Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil, made the same prediction on Thursday.
Note: *Jimmy BIT the Mayor a few years back, so he stays in his cage now, LOL!
“He’s got to be stopped!”
