The Croatian President Slammed His US-Led NATO Allies For Provoking Russia & China
Oriental Review ^ | 01/02/2023 | Andrew Korybko

Central European countries like Croatia, Hungary, and also recently Austria too are beginning to emerge as voices of reason in the West after their de facto New Cold War bloc’s proxy war on Russia through Ukraine over the past year failed to defeat that Great Power. They rightly realize how counterproductive this NATO-led campaign has been for their collective interests, ergo why they’re urging restraint and even an outright reversal of policy at this point in time.

Croatian President Zoran Milanovic is unexpectedly giving Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban a run for his money when it comes to being the voice of Western pragmatism towards the Ukrainian Conflict. This Balkan leader’s recent press conference in Petrinja saw him lambast his NATO allies for provoking Russia and China. He condemned their proxy war plots against both multipolar Great Powers and argued that Croatia must do its utmost to remain neutral amidst these tensions lest it inevitably suffer.

His pragmatic stance also extends to regional affairs after he condemned the West’s amputation of Serbia’s Autonomous Province of Kosovo & Metohija. It was surprising to hear such words from a Croatian representative considering these two countries’ well-known tensions, but that simply reinforces the observation that President Milanovic is truly among the most balanced Western leaders. For that reason, some other points from his latest press conference deserve to be highlighted too.

On the topic of regional animosity, he outright declared that those sentiments that previously existed between Croats and Serbs pale in comparison to the Baltic countries’ hatred of Russia, which he described as pathological. Similarly, he condemned the European Parliament for talking about “tearing Russia apart”, warning that their target won’t accept the failure of its ongoing special operation and might thus ultimately resort to nuclear weapons as a last resort if need be.

Germany and other NATO countries’ dispatch of tanks to Ukraine won’t make a meaningful difference on the ground, President Milanovic predicted, but might actually push Russia and China closer together. That outcome would be strategically disadvantageous for the Collective West, or what can also be described as the US-led West’s Golden Billion, and should thus be avoided since it could reshape the balance of influence in the New Cold War between his side and the Global South.

Crimea will never be Ukrainian again, President Milanovic assessed, which adds to his argument against continuing to arm that former Soviet Republic against Russia. Humanitarian aid and continuing to condemn Russia at multilateral fora will therefore be the maximum extent to which Croatia will participate in NATO’s proxy war on Russia through Ukraine. All told, his views are extremely refreshing since no Western leader apart from Prime Minister Orban ever spoke in such a way thus far.

Nobody can credibly accuse President Milanovic of being a so-called “Russian agent” either since it wasn’t under his administration that Russia acquired a major stake in Croatia’s food group Agrokor, which is estimated to account for a whopping 15% of his country’s economy. He actually brought that point up during his press conference to preemptively deflect from predictable ad hominem attacks such as those that followed his similarly pragmatic comments a year ago in early February 2022.

What this goes to show is that some Central European countries like Croatia, Hungary, and also recently Austria too are beginning to emerge as voices of reason in the West after their de facto New Cold War bloc’s proxy war on Russia through Ukraine over the past year failed to defeat that Great Power. They rightly realize how counterproductive this NATO-led campaign has been for their collective interests, ergo why they’re urging restraint and even an outright reversal of policy at this point in time.

Europe is paying the price for all this, not America, as President Milanovic wisely remarked during his press conference. It can therefore be intuited that he’s implying that the indefinite perpetuation of this proxy war is indeed part and parcel of the US’ plot to reassert its previously declining unipolar hegemony over the continent. Under such newfound conditions, it’s little wonder that Washington is now exploiting NATO to saber-rattle against China, which the Croatian leader also said that he’s against.

What’s happened over the past year is remarkable in the grand strategic sense for several reasons. First, the US provoked a major conflict in Europe by miscalculation, with the second point being that it rhetorically raised the stakes in this resultant proxy war to an absurd extent by fearmongering that Russia is a modern-day manifestation of Nazi Germany. Third, this artificially manufactured information warfare narrative makes it practically impossible for the US to de-escalate, hence its “mission creep”.

The fourth point is that the aforesaid fake news narrative is also being applied towards China too, albeit modified for the regional political-security conditions of the Asia-Pacific, in order for the US to obtain European cannon fodder for “containing” that multipolar Great Power on a similarly false basis. And finally, the last reason why the past year is so remarkable in the grand strategic sense is because it clearly outlined the contours not just of the New Cold War, but also a potential Third World War too.

To briefly elaborate though without any intent of sounding alarmist like most in the Alt-Media Community deliberately do whenever they discuss this sensitive subject, it’s obvious that the Golden Billion is aggressively trying to “contain” the multipolar engines of Russia and China. The purpose behind doing so is to indefinitely delay the global systemic transition to multipolarity so as to uphold the US’ unipolar hegemony as long as possible.

Instead of being forthright about this with their public, which would admittedly risk a lot of backlash since the average member of their society isn’t expected to support this literal plot for world domination, the West’s perception managers falsely frame everything in terms of “values”. The so-called “rules-based order” is presented as the concept that must be protected at all costs despite being just a euphemism for the selective implementation of double standards aimed at advancing the US’ interests.

Nevertheless, by twisting the facts (even sometimes going as far as manufacturing “convenient” ones) and related perceptions thereof, the West is trying to cultivate support for this inevitable series of proxy wars that are expected to define the New Cold War but which might accidentally turn into a World War. President Milanovic is keenly aware of these dangerous military-strategic dynamics, which is why he was so outspoken in condemning the West in his latest press conference and should thus be applauded.

◾Katya from Kharkov has received death threats for the videos she makes about Ukraine:

- “I was added to Myrotvorets because I compared a village in Kharkov and Belgorod regions.”

- they published my personal data in the telegram channels of the Right Sector and on Myrotvorets.

- People are literally bullied for their opinions. Certain laws of Ukraine violate the UN Convention on Human Rights. And you call it a democracy?

- Note: there are 327 children on Myrotvorets list of enemies of the Ukrainian state.

Washington Post, Deutsche Welle, The Times: Doxing the enemies of the state. Official Open Ukraine Database, 2014

2014, Anton Gerashenko (Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, and MP) presented a website: Mirotvorets (Myrotvorets or Peacemaker in english). This website doxes journalist, media figures of Ukraine and foreign citizenship which according to Gerashenko are terrorist, enemies of Ukraine. Here is a list of articles concerning this open official DB of the enemies of the Ukraine state:

◼️ Washington Post: Ukrainian hackers publish info on thousands of journalists, 2016
quote:
“A letter signed by about 40 Ukrainian and foreign journalists said that some of those on the list had received threatening emails and phone calls, while a broader concern was that some Ukrainian politicians were now calling for the journalists to be considered “enemies of Ukraine” and barred from working in the country.”

◼️ Deutsche Welle: Gerhard Schröder labeled ‘enemy of the state’ in Ukraine, 2018

◼️ The New York Times: Branded a ‘Terrorist’ for Reporting Two Sides of Ukraine’s War, 2016

◼️ The Times (UK): Ukraine’s blacklist: Killers, lawyers, writers and spies, 2022

◼️ The Daily Beast: Ukraine Tries to Terrify Journalists Who Cover the War, 2017
quote:
The first targets for the trolls unleashed by the Myrotvorets were Ukrainian journalists. Freelance reporter Roman Stepanovich received a message on his email: “Let you die, a separatist beach! Glory to Ukraine!”
Yekaterina Sergatskova, an anchor at Hramadske TV, felt frustrated: “Now they accuse us of ‘helping the terrorists,’” she told The Daily Beast. “This is a project curated by the Security Service of Ukraine and praised by Anton Geraschenko [at the Interior Ministry]. He was the one who originally initiated that project.”

◼️ Interfax Ukraine: OSCE Representative Mijatovich expresses concern about journalists’ safety in Ukraine, 2016

A bit of a context:

◼️ In April 2015, Myrotvorets published the home addresses of Ukrainian writer Oles Buzina and former Verkhovna Rada parliamentarian Oleg Kalashnikov, just days before they were assassinated.

◼️ Andrea Rocchelli, an Italian journalist murdered by the Ukrainian army in 2014 during the Donbas war, has been filed on the site. In Rocchelli’s file, on whose photo the Myrotvorets Center has applied the red writing superimposed “Liquidated”, there is a note stating that the photojournalist was “cooperating with pro-Russian terrorist organizations” and that he had violated the border of state of Ukraine to enter the territory occupied by “Russian terrorist gangs”.

◼️ In 2018, Svetlana Alexievich, Nobel Prize in Literature, received threats from local nationalists and had to cancel a meeting with readers in the Green Theater of the Ukrainian city of Odessa when her name was added to a list of “enemies of Ukraine” by the Myrotvorets for “propagating interethnic discord and manipulating information important for society”.

◼️On 11 October 2018, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said: “It is a lie that the Ukrainian state has nothing to do with the website that is listing suspected dual Ukrainian-Hungarian nationals”, and claimed that President Petro Poroshenko “gave his consent to the hate campaign in an attempt to increase his popularity”

“failed to defeat that Great Power”

More like Russia failed to defeat Ukraine, proving it’s not much of a “Great Power” anymore.

“I guess one only has to look into a situation enough to properly determine -— who is the real rapist?”

It’s not really that hard. The one who was minding their own business until they were attacked is not the rapist. See? Not too hard.

The idea that they were minding their own business is the most amusing thing I have read today.

Both Hollande and Merkel have admited the Minsk peace agreements were lies, intended to give Ukraine time to prepare for war with Russia.

The US, Brits and French were in Ukraine training their military for about years.

“The idea that they were minding their own business is the most amusing thing I have read today.”

So, the rapee was “asking for it” then.

“Both Hollande and Merkel have admited the Minsk peace agreements were lies...”

You mean the agreements that Russia violated immediately in both cases?

“The US, Brits and French were in Ukraine training their military for about years.”

Yes, of course, since everyone knew that Russia had every intention of invading again.

I am sure the western msm tells you that. The same ones who lied every single day about Trump.
You have the freedom to believe them. I choose not to.

“What American armchair and TV generals simply cannot comprehend is that in Russia’s view of this war – which military expert Andrei Martyanov defines as a “combined arms and police operation” – the two top targets are the destruction of all military assets of the enemy while preserving the life of its own soldiers.

So while losing tanks is not a big deal for Moscow, losing lives is. And that accounts for those massive Russian bombings; each military target must be conclusively destroyed. Precision strikes are crucial.

There is a raging debate among Russian military experts on why the Ministry of Defense does not go for a fast strategic victory. They could have reduced Ukraine to rubble – American style – in no time. That’s not going to happen. The Russians prefer to advance slowly and surely, in a sort of steamroller pattern. They only advance after sappers have fully surveilled the terrain; after all there are mines everywhere.

The overall pattern is unmistakable, whatever the NATO spin barrage. Ukrainian losses are becoming exponential – as many as 1,500 killed or wounded each day, everyday. If there are 50,000 Ukrainians in the several Donbass cauldrons, they will be gone by the end of June.

Ukraine must have lost as many as 20,000 soldiers in and around Mariupol alone. That’s a massive military defeat, largely surpassing Debaltsevo in 2015 and previously Ilovaisk in 2014. The losses near Izyum may be even higher than in Mariupol. And now come the losses in the Severodonetsk corner.

We’re talking here about the best Ukrainian forces. It doesn’t even matter that only 70 percent of Western weapons sent by NATO ever make it to the battlefield: the major problem is that the best soldiers are going…going…gone, and won’t be replaced. Azov neo-Nazis, the 24th Brigade, the 36th Brigade, various Air Assault brigades – they all suffered losses of 60+ percent or have been completely demolished.

So the key question, as several Russian military experts have stressed, is not when Kiev will ‘lose’ as a point of no return; it is how many soldiers Moscow is prepared to lose to get to this point.”

No, my own eyes tell me that. Next, you’ll try to tell me my eyes are lying and the Russian flag is actually flying over the Ukrainian capitol :)

Russia, from day one, said they only want eastern Ukraine.

So there won’t be a flag.

All of Russia’s actions make perfect sense after listening to Putin’s speeches.

Poland will get western Ukraine.

“Russia, from day one, said they only want eastern Ukraine.”

Russia also said they wanted to “demilitarize” Ukraine, which doesn’t happen just seizing eastern Ukraine. And they also invaded in an attempted blitz to capture the capitol, which you do when you want to depose a government, not just capture the eastern provinces. So only a fool takes Russia at its word. You can choose to if you like, but I decline.

“Poland will get western Ukraine.”

LOLOLOL, keep dreaming.
