KRAYDEN: With Trudeau fueling the war in Ukraine, we are marching to Armageddon
Western Standard ^ | February 1, 2023 | David Krayden

Posted on 02/01/2023 10:40:09 AM PST by A Formerly Proud Canadian

By contributing to the war in Ukraine, the Trudeau government is — perhaps unwittingly — marching us all down the road to Armageddon.

This is by no means hyperbole. Even the academics who rule the Doomsday Clock have set the dial at 90 seconds to midnight. We used to hear all about that clock during the height of the Cold War, when liberals thought President Ronald Reagan was going to start bombing Moscow.

But 90 seconds is closer than it's ever been. I have little patience for people — usually those with no defence experience or expertise — who insist this latest confrontation with Russia is the latest manifestation of Pax Americana and that NATO is doing its job to contain Russia. It’s 2023, not 1955, and Russia is not the Soviet Union and NATO is not the same organization.

I spent years peddling NATO’s talking points as a military public affairs officer — when these talking points were relevant. When I worked on Parliament Hill I produced a defence policy document, Canada Strong and Free, that underlined the salience of NATO in maintaining collective security and keeping the peace. NATO was relevant when NATO was containing communism.

NATO is not preventing a potential Third World War by containing Russia. It's fomenting a Third World War by creating the same conditions that provoked the First World War, a historical catastrophe that created the Bolshevik regime in Russia, destroyed the British Empire and planted the seeds of Nazism and the inevitable Second World War.

We are sleepwalking into a conflict with Russia — the most nuclear-armed country in the world — by thinking we can quietly and seamlessly arm Ukraine and wage a proxy war with Russia, and not expect it to retaliate.

The expansion of NATO to virtually every country in Europe is not just strategically inept. It is plain stupid. NATO’s rule the invasion of one member nation constitutes an invasion of all means Canada could be fighting over any military incursion of any member nation. Do you want to go to war over Albania? How about Estonia? Latvia?

It’s utter foolishness.

In 1990, the George H.W. Bush administration promised the dying Soviet Union that NATO would not expand eastward. This was vital for that country’s future security and the new Russian federation dissolved the Warsaw Pact in 1991 thinking that NATO was essentially a moribund military alliance.

There are some who are trying to suggest Bush wasn’t really serious about this commitment, but that really doesn’t matter either way — Russia believed then and believes now that the West was damn serious about it.

By expanding NATO in this manner, the West perhaps ruined its chances to transform Russia into the truly democratic state it can and should be. God knows, the Russian people endured a communist revolution, Stalin’s murderous purges and Gulags and bore the brunt of the Second World War in the last century. They deserve better.

Since the end of the Cold War, NATO has been seeking a mission.

It has largely been effective in peacemaking efforts in Europe. I served in one of those missions to Bosnia in 1996.

It has been grossly ineffective in attempting to humiliate Russia by further encirclement. Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine proves that.

It may be true Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was a violation of international law, immoral, brutal and worthy of serious condemnation.

But it is not worth a nuclear war. Austria’s invasion of Serbia and Germany ignoring Belgium neutrality in 1914 were also monstrous and unacceptable. But these incursions did not justify the Great War that murdered millions of soldiers who were surrounded by mud, shrapnel, dead bodies and corpulent rats in the trenches of the Western Front.

And we are no more making “the world safe for democracy” in Ukraine anymore than we were by fighting the First World War. Ukraine is a petulant republic ruled by rich oligarchs who are stealing our military and civil aid dollars. And I'm sick and tired of retired actor and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy running around to photo ops in his military active wear.

How much has Canada contributed to this mess? Have a look at the timeline on the federal government’s own website.

We just sent two Leopard tanks. Don’t expect them to be coming back. There was the 200 APCs, worth $90 million. Then the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System that we are buying from the United States to give to Ukraine worth another $460 million.

We’ve also sent howitzers and an assortment of other military aid, including $1 billion in direct funding.

If you’ve any doubt that we are on the path to catastrophe, ask yourself this question: Has Trudeau ever been right about any of his abiding passions?

And he’s wrong about this one too.

An editorial on the Western Standard, a conservative Western Canadian website by its 'Senior Columnist (Parliament Hill)'.

I agree with most of what he says. Versus the 'bought and paid for' Canadian MSM, he is a contrarian, NOT simply regurgitating what True-dolt and the gubmint feed them.

For me, the 'money' comment is the last few sentences, well worth repeating!

'Has Trudeau ever been right about any of his abiding passions?'

'And he’s wrong about this one too.'

Zelenskyy and True-dolt. Two WEF pawns, both failed actors, both playing the roles of 'leaders'. Pathetic, yet we are sleepwalking into a nuclear war. Who will win? PRC! They sit back on the side lines while NATO and Russia nuke each other, destroying their ability to defend themselves.

Putin’s clearly a psychopath...but he’s a psychopath with nukes, oil and now allies. The emerging friendship between Russia and China is very, very, very,*very* bad news for the civilized world.

It Putin ever goes nuclear, it will have nothing to do with that pissant.

Trudeau is a turd, but he’s an insignificant and useless turd who’s standing on the world stage is so low that nobody even considers him, nor his opinion on any world matter of any significance.

I believe his job before becoming Prime Minister was working as a part time Primary school drama teacher... Would anybody including Putin consider his opinion, or actions worth paying attention to?

I think not.

No he’s been on the opposite side of everything I and other conservatives support. Which begs the question: why does anyone on FR who claims to be conservative support this proxy war? They are all aligning themselves with the enemies of conservatism.

“But 90 seconds is closer than it’s ever been.”

Anyone who thinks we are actually closer to nuclear armageddon than we were during the Cuban Missile Crisis or other touchy spots during the cold war is not someone worth listening to.

Maybe because some of us don’t base our opinions on the foolishly simplistic premise that we must reflexively take the opposite position of people we disagree with. Some of us base our opinions on a critical assessment of the facts, without regard to what position anyone else is taking.

[marching us all down the road to Armageddon.]

Technically, World War III or World War IV.

Armageddon will happen at the end of the 7 years of ‘Peace and Security’. And that will be quickly ended by the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

However, the author still makes a valid point.

No, you shouldn’t reflexively take the opposite version. However, when the entire pantheon of leftism is on your side, you should take pause. On your side there is Trudeau, macaron, Merkel, Biden, Hillary, Obama, Schumer, Nadler, Boris Johnson, the vindman brothers, Victoria Nuland, the woke DOD, the entire MSM, all of academia, CNN, New York Times, Mark Zuckerberg, Sean Penn, Abramovich the spirit cooking woman, Schwab, the WEF, all of Hollywood. Etc. The list is endless. Every single woke, pussy hat wearing, BLM supporting person on earth is all in for Ukraine.

If one leftist says something that you happen to agree with, no, you shouldn’t reflexively take the opposite position. However, when the entire Greek chorus of leftism is 100% in lockstep with you, it’s probably you in the wrong.

Well he’s right but there is going to be nuclear war standoff ginned up by the deep state actors. We all know who the players are. They are going to scare everybody to death and then back down. This has been in the works for awhile.

“However, when the entire pantheon of leftism is on your side, you should take pause.”

Nah, that’s the opposite of critical thinking. If you have reasoned properly, it doesn’t matter at all who agrees with your who disagrees with you, or how popular or unpopular your opinion is. If everyone on the left says “the sky is blue”, I am not going to question my own assessment of the sky’s color one bit.

“Don’t be a simpleton.”

Simpletons are the ones who pay attention to what others think before deciding their own opinion.

“why does anyone on FR who claims to be conservative support this proxy war?”

Reasons I can see:

(1) Cold War Boomers— They hate Russia. They’ll hate Russia until they die. Like the WWII vets that hated Japan, the WWI vets that hated Germany, the Civil War vets that hated the Yanks/Rebs, the Revolutionary War Vets that hated the Tories...

(2) Their mail-order bride or online girl friend is Ukrainian.

(3) They or their family is ethnic Ukrainian

(4) They are invested in the military-industrial-complex and their earnings are up (to help compensate for the utter destruction the Biden regime is causing the rest of the economy).

(5) They are shills. Either paid for by the DC regime, a NATO government, or the regime in Ukraine.

(6) Expats. I’ve noticed that quite a few prominent Uke war fans don’t live in America. They are more concerned about some foreign entanglement than the invasion across our southern border. Why? Well, because they don’t live in America and are detached from what actual, REAL Americans (vs citizens of the world) are concerned about.

I can sympathize with 1-4. I can even understand 5 (everyone needs a job, and if the poster is Ukrainian, it might be the only way to avoid being sent to the front).

The expats (6) are the contemptible ones. They are the arrogant jerks who like to talk down to those who don’t support the war. We aren’t as well traveled and sophisticated to understand and it’s beneath them to expain it to the uncouth and vulgar. These are the globalist pricks.

What is more conservative than using up an inventory of old munitions to kill your enemy…but someone else will do it for you?

That’s about as capitalist as you get.

Obviously, you do not understand how the bought and paid for Canadian MSM actually DO MARCH to whatever True-dolt says. In addition, you don’t understand that True-dolt asks, “How high?” and “May I lick your boots some more?” when his mentor, ‘der Führer und Reichskanzler’ K(louse) Squab says, “Jump!”

Yep, I’m sure the phrase is ‘slouching towards Armageddon’ however, True-dolt IS marching the ‘stupids’ that voted him in (and the rest of us), towards Armageddon!
