Reason why I decided to share is the police were just here. The detective said his Walmart credit card was hacked about 4 days ago for 500 dollars.

So either it’s a freak coincidence or much more likely Walmart has had a data breach theft.

Could it be the Walmart practice or ‘free pickup your order’ and ordering online that has made fraud easier ?

I never activated a Walmart credit card mailed to me but I purchase all my groceries from Walmart Market online with another card.

I’ve set up my card so that I am notified by text immediately when it is used. If your CC company can’t handle that, ditch and get one that will.

Same here. I’m notified immediately through texts when I use my card.

What bank is the vendor of your Walmart credit card? Mine is from Capital One, and so far no problem.

For my money, I never store CC Info at a storefront with one or two exceptions. I always check out as guest / enter my card information for each transaction. That’s just me. All you can do is limit your exposure where it’s possible.

I also use Dashlane which makes the checkout process much easier. It’s served us well for many years.

Your card # could have been stolen anywhere if its a normal credit card with VISA/MC/DS/Amex attached. Walmart is just a common place for thieves to attempt to get value out of using it. The most common place for card #s to be stolen is restaurants and next is a key logger installed on your computer. If it’s a store only walmart credit card (don’t know if Walmart issues these or not?) that does significantly increase the probability its something at Walmart.

I just saw another scam: A UPS driver puts the package on the doorstep, takes a picture to show it was delivered, then picks up the package and leaves.

Life must have taken a bad turn for him after his baseball career. ;-).

A good reason to have doorbell cameras.

Last January I was in the hospital for three weeks and a week or so later cleared to drive.

I used my CC in three physical places, local gas stations and a CVS a few days later.

About 2 weeks go by and I get a message from my CC saying my card appeared to be compromised. I called and come to find out someone bought 400 bucks of fuel in PA. I live in SC and have never been there.

I signed up for text messages for all the debit and credit cards.

Only one other case since of a compromised card.

I am pretty sure the safest & best way to prevent your Credit or debit card from being hacked is to cancel the accounts and use only cash.
It is simply a product of the times we live in and we must always be very vigilant.

I keep, getting my debit card hacked, and I only use it at 4 places- gas stations (which I found out might be where it is getting hacked) and 3 online places, one being walmart.

Not,sure, which store or,gas station it gets hacked at. I finally had to sign up for the deactivate feature on the card, and have to,reactivate when I want to use it. Haven’t really dared trying it yet though. Last time it got hacked was nearly $1000- now I only keep 500 in it, and have alerts set to email me whenever it gets used.

I guess gas station pumps are a common places for hackers to,set up key loggers or some such thing. I only use cash now at gas stations. Less convenient, but worth the extra effort.

Your card # could have been stolen anywhere

This. I bought a holster from a company in Alaska (I'm in OK) and the next thing I know, somebody was using my card info in New Jersey. The holster company offers a very unique product but they use some credit card processing service. I think the CC service was hacked.

That same thing happened when I booked a fly fishing trip in Colorado. The fishing guide also used an independent service. The service was hacked; I was notified my card was being used; etc.

Becoming more common. A monster like Walmart isn't likely to be breached that easily. Not saying it couldn't happen, but they've got high dollar controls in place.

To thwart this, we have a surveillance camera which shows anyone who approaches our house, and also one on the front porch, to be used by the authorities should we ever need to show this happening to us. So far it hasn’t happened at our home, but we have used it for our neighbors who were trying to track down a missing package.

My card “not walmart” has been hacked three times in the past year. One for a “weave” store. Several fake uber rides. Another for “rimz” and another for $5000 at a Nieman Marcus. It happens. I suspect the credit card companies welcome this because most people don’t notice.

Exactly why I only use cash for gas. Even in small local towns out here, PD and smart geeks have found card readers at some convenient stores’ fuel pumps.

Got 2 cards borrowed when T-Mobile bought Sprint. Dropped T-Mobile as it seems they have this happen over and over every few years. Went to a different carrier, lower rates, best coverage in Texas. Also turned on “TEXT NOTIFY” for transactions on all cards.
