The Complete Holy Bible - NIVUK Audio Bible (youtube, read by David Suchet)

This is a link to the Entire NIV Bible read by David Suchet (played Hercule Poirot in Poirot (TV Series 1989–2013).

I have this on Audible and listen to it every night before bed and during the night if I have trouble sleeping (which is usually every night around 2-2:30).

If you've never read the Bible from beginning to end, this is a great way to do it.

I have now read the Bible several times through and go back and reread parts that speak to me over and over again.

At youtube, there is a complete list of all videos by book, so it is easy to navigate. I have gotten friends involved and they say that it has changed their lives.

So, if interested in the Bible, check it out. It is obviously perfect for people who have vision problems.

It's the Bible for crying out loud. It's powerful and supernatural.;-)

And it's free!

Try doing both. That way you'll bombard your mind with God's incredibly beautiful and powerful word.

You might even try doing both at the same time. Wonderful stuff!

I have learned many, many things I never noticed before, particularly about Paul's travels and just how determined and intelligent he is. You can see the Holy Spirit moving him about, from town to town and synagogue to synagogue.

When I wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep (happens every night), I listen to the Bible. It focuses the mind on what's important and even if you don't fall back asleep, your mind becomes peaceful and at the same time, energized with good energy.

I never sleep all night through but by reading the Bible during the middle of the night, I wake rested and ready to go.

It's magical.

I will try Scourby. He's a great actor.

Spread the word about these audio Bibles. It makes the Bible very accessible to good people who don't read the Bible regularly...or at all.

I am amazed at all these good Christians I know who are not digging down into the Word. There must be a vast emptiness in their lives that only the Word can fill...yet they don't know about it. Yes, they could read the Bible in print, but many people don't read because their eyes get tired or because their eyes are weaker.

We sit here on the edge of eternity, knowing full-well that there is only one way out, but most people don't study the Book which tells us about the way out.

Yes, this is great. I listened to the whole Bible, tbh I’m not sure I could have gotten through the whole thing myself. Highly recommended!

About getting through the whole thing myself...no way I could have done it by myself. It would have turned into a chore.

But I reading it on Audible or youtube, it is a treat. I keep backing up to make sure I heard it correctly. Sometimes I have to stop and go to a Bible commentary to get some backstory on what I'm reading. It's better than a theology degree...and much more fun!

I was reading (for the thousandth time) Acts last night. That Paul is on fire. It is easy to see why God chose him. Paul and the Holy Spirit are relentless. I pity the Jewish establishment, the Greeks, and the Roman Empire. When Paul is on the case, he is unstoppable.;-)

It is a wonderful audiò bible.

Suchet is a Christian, and according to one interview he discovered Jesus while working on the movie Harry and the Hendersons. He was bored, so started reading the bible in the hotel room.

Darned good advice you’ve given me.

and now for a technical segue:

I have a bunch of old phones that no longer ‘phone’, but the camera and other things still work fine.

Does anyone know if I can use one of them as an Ipod, storing music (bible) on it for use in the car?

Followup question:

Why doesn’t SLC place it’s ENTIRE scripture panoply in the hotel rooms?

Hardly any doctrine comes from the BoM, but in the other writings of Joseph.

Doctrines & Covenants as well as the Pearl of Great Price.

While Elsie was at home one day, there came a knocking upon his door.

Opening it, he found 2 elders who simultaneouly told him, "Hi.  We would like to help you learn more about who GOD and Jesus Christ are."

“Will you be using the LDS 'Inspired Version' of the bible?”, Elsie questioned.

“No,” they answered, “we have not even heard that there is a 'Inspired Version' !”

"You mean it is NOT found in your Quad?", Elsie asked.

 "No", they replied; in stereo.

"Strange", said Elsie, "considering ALL the work Joseph Smith put into obeying the COMMAND of GOD.  Especially in light of the Articles of Faith casting doubt on the accuracy of the KJ version."

Speaking of the AoF...

The Articles of Faith outline 13 basic points of belief of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Prophet Joseph Smith first wrote them in a letter to John Wentworth, a newspaper editor,
in response to Mr. Wentworth's request to know what members of the Church believed.

They were subsequently published in Church periodicals.
They are now regarded as scripture and included in the Pearl of Great Price.

THE ARTICLES OF FAITH
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
History of the Church, Vol. 4, pp. 535—541

  1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
  2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
  3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
  4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
  6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
  7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
  8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
  9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
  10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
  11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
  12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
  13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Very interesting discovery.

You should write an article on that. It would sell like hotcakes to lots of online publications.

Why doesn’t SLC place it’s ENTIRE scripture panoply in the hotel rooms?

Because the Holy Bible is the starting place.

Hardly any doctrine comes from the BoM, but in the other writings of Joseph.

That thought is proof positive you have not read the Book of Mormon. As we have discussed in the past it contains as does the Bible the fulness of the everlasting gospel. That is a quote from the Introduction page of the Book of Mormon.

...and thanks for the revelation that we have a scripture panoply. Even if perhaps you might not have meant it, thanks for the mention.

If the Bible contains it (as long as it's translated properly - a quote from one of the Mormon scriptures) then why is the BoM needed?

That would be a neat trick, since I have POSTED vast amounts of Mormon scripture here on FR in the last 20 years.

....I have POSTED vast amounts of Mormon scripture here ...

And here is some more:

 Doctrine and Covenants

SECTION 20:1-12

Revelation on Church organization and government, given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at or near Fayette, New York. Portions of this revelation may have been given as early as summer 1829. The complete revelation, known at the time as the Articles and Covenants, was likely recorded soon after April 6, 1830 (the day the Church was organized). The Prophet wrote, “We obtained of Him [Jesus Christ] the following, by the spirit of prophecy and revelation; which not only gave us much information, but also pointed out to us the precise day upon which, according to His will and commandment, we should proceed to organize His Church once more here upon the earth.”

1–16, The Book of Mormon proves the divinity of the latter-day work; 17–28, The doctrines of creation, fall, atonement, and baptism are affirmed; 29–37, Laws governing repentance, justification, sanctification, and baptism are set forth; 38–67, Duties of elders, priests, teachers, and deacons are summarized; 68–74, Duties of members, blessing of children, and the mode of baptism are revealed; 75–84, Sacramental prayers and regulations governing Church membership are given.

1 The arise of the bChurch of Christ in these last days, being one thousand eight hundred and thirty years since the ccoming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the flesh, it being regularly dorganized and established agreeable to the elaws of our country, by the will and commandments of God, in the fourth month, and on the sixth day of the month which is called April—

2 Which commandments were given to Joseph Smith, Jun., who was acalled of God, and bordained an capostle of Jesus Christ, to be the dfirst eelder of this church;

3 And to Oliver Cowdery, who was also called of God, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to be the asecond elder of this church, and ordained under his hand;

4 And this according to the agrace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom be all glory, both now and forever. Amen.

5 After it was truly manifested unto this first elder that he had received a aremission of his sins, he was bentangled again in the cvanities of the world;

6 But after arepenting, and humbling himself sincerely, through faith, God ministered unto him by an holy bangel, whose ccountenance was as lightning, and whose garments were pure and white above all other whiteness;

7 And gave unto him acommandments which inspired him;

8 And agave him power from on high, by the bmeans which were before prepared, to translate the Book of Mormon;

9 Which contains a arecord of a fallen people, and the bfulness of the cgospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles and to the Jews also;

10 Which was given by inspiration, and is confirmed to aothers by the ministering of angels, and is bdeclared unto the world by them—

11 Proving to the world that the holy scriptures are atrue, and that God does binspire men and call them to his choly work in this age and generation, as well as in generations of old;

12 Thereby showing that he is the asame God yesterday, today, and bforever. Amen.
