Megyn Kelly blasted the first lady after she was introduced on Fox as “Dr. Jill Biden” during the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, calling her a “wannabe” for not having a “real” degree and for “insisting on this fake title.”
Biden was sitting next to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a luxury suite at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, where the first lady was rooting for her beloved Eagles during their decisive rout of the undermanned San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
When Fox cameras showed Biden and Goodell in the box, the television network’s graphics introduced her as “Dr. Jill Biden — First Lady of the United States.”
“Announcers for this Eagles-49ers game just spotted the First Lady in a box and of course call her ‘Dr. Jill Biden,'” Kelly tweeted. “Wonder if she realizes what a wannabe she looks like insisting on this fake title.”
Kelly added: “Get a real MD or just work on your self-esteem.”
In 2007, Jill Biden earned a doctorate of education from the University of Delaware. When her husband, President Biden, served as Barack Obama’s vice president, Jill Biden taught English full-time at Northern Virginia Community College.
Jill Biden’s insistence on using the honorific even though she’s not a physician triggered widespread debate about which PhD recipients should be called “doctor.”
In December 2020, the Wall Street Journal published a much-discussed opinion piece by Joseph Epstein, who urged the first lady to do away with the title, “which feels fraudulent, even comic.”

Consider “Dr.” Jill Biden, who doesn’t even hold a Ph.D. but rather a lesser Ed.D., something of a joke in the academic world. President-elect Joe Biden once explained that his wife sought the degree purely for status reasons: “She said, ‘I was so sick of the mail coming to Sen. and Mrs. Biden. I wanted to get mail addressed to Dr. and Sen. Biden.’ That’s the real reason she got her doctorate,” Joe Biden has said.
Mrs. Biden wanted the credential for its own sake. As for its quality, well. She got it from the University of Delaware, whose ties to her husband, its most illustrious alumnus if you don’t count Joe Flacco, run so deep that it has a school of public policy named after him. That the University of Delaware would have rejected her 2006 dissertation as sloppy, poorly written, non-academic, and barely fit for a middle-school Social Studies classroom (all of which it is) when her husband had been representing its state in the U.S. Senate for more than three decades was about as likely as Tom Hagen telling Vito Corleone that his wife is a fat sow on payday.
The only risk to the University of Delaware was that it might strain its collective wrist in its rush to rubber-stamp her doctoral paper. Mrs. Biden could have turned in a quarter-a**ed excuse for a magazine article written at the level of Simple English Wikipedia and been heartily congratulated by the university for her towering mastery. Which is exactly what happened.

Nothing would be better for education than the end of the ED degree. If they are doctors it is more like Doctor of Destruction.
Sounds like an apples and oranges debate to me.
A PhD is a doctorate degree but is not the same as a medical doctor.
Same, except that Papa Doc was smarter and knew how to use voodoo on his enemies.
But a significant and substantial technical effort in reaching the PhD for medicine, than in ejicayshon. So don’t blown smoke up her arse. She should dump it, like all the other fakes she mingles with.

Agreed. I hold a JD, and it’s considered bad form, and literally no one does it, to refer to oneself as a doctor. Ph.D, I have no problem with the Edson calling themselves Dr. But an Ed.D is the humblest of doctorates and using it—- or having the media insist it be used as to you—- is just pretentious

Correct. In any legitimate discipline, the Ph.D. represents successful completion of a much more rigorous program of study and original research than a mere MD.
