NAPLES, Fla. — A Florida man is accused of pulling a gun on restaurant employees when his online order of chicken wings was nearly an hour late, authorities said.
Matthew James Davis, 35, of Naples, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Collier County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.
The sheriff’s office said that Davis threatened employees at a Wingstop restaurant in Naples, WINK-TV reported.
According to an arrest affidavit, Davis placed an online order for chicken wings at 8:39 p.m. on Aug. 27, 2021. The store promised that his order would be ready at 8:58 p.m., but when he arrived at 9:40 p.m. the food was not ready.
The sheriff’s office said that Davis was angry and began pacing in the waiting area. He was not mollified when an employee offered him a free drink while he waited, WBBH-TV reported.
According to the affidavit, Davis reportedly told employees that he was “going to get my strap (gun).”
“They going to see that I’m not playing,” Davis allegedly said.
At that point, Davis left the restaurant and retrieved a gun from his white van.
Employees and witnesses later told authorities that they feared for their lives, according to the affidavit.
“I can’t even imagine, you know, that somebody, because their order took too long or they didn’t like how it came out? “ Gregory Garcia told WINK. “It’s like OK, then you don’t go there again, but to pull a gun on somebody over something as silly as that as an order not being to their satisfaction.
“I mean, that’s getting kind of nuts.”
After a preliminary investigation, Davis met with sheriff’s detectives on Wednesday. According to the arrest affidavit, Davis told detectives that his outburst occurred several weeks after his mother’s death and that he was “stressed out.” He added that the gun was not loaded and that he merely intended to “intimidate” the restaurant employees.
Davis was arrested and booked into the Collier County Jail. He posted bail on Friday and will appear in court on Feb. 20, online court records show.
He was an hout late. I hope they gave his wings to send meone else. and they were making him some fresh ones. they take about 20 minutes.. I repeat. HE WAS AN HOUR LATE. AND THEY MADE HIM SOME FRESH WINGS!!
What does he do for a living? Eat?
Under Communism, you wait for wings.
Under Capitalism, wings wait for you.
Maybe he was having a growth spurt.
Now all he’ll get is the chicken bone.
Looks like he needs to lay off the wings.
I want to make some flippant remark such as “Well wouldn’t we all do the same?”. (And I did).
However, the fact that such incidents are becoming common-place, and Florida man has become a non-stop meme, I want to say something more.
Our nation and culture is devolving into something much like the warring tribes of old times, before our nation was actually founded. Those that come to America, even legally, are no longer required to assimilate into America’s culture. Many immediately move to the known “Chinatown” or other separated area that fits that particular culture. They bring their culture here and then expand it without ever thinking of the country they have come to and the bounties that are available to them, except for the tax-payer dollars.
The cultural “pot” is boiling over which means that soon there will be no adhesiveness at all in our nation which was previously known as the “United States of America”.
If you are that hungry go make yourself a PB&J.
My eight year old can do it so you, a grown man, should be able to do so as well.
28 posts and no one noted the guy was 42 minutes late to pick up his order…his wings were most likely trashed due to being old & cold and he was considered a no-show.
Hangry is a real emotion 🤣
Well this guy definitely isn’t a regular at the bistros on 5th Ave S.
Not really. Old Naples, the best condos and subdivisions near the coast, and the new gated communities inland are neat and secure. Yet, even though upscale and almost exclusively white, the Naples area also has the usual commercial roadside franchise clutter with many pockets of humble or rundown residential housing. As with most places in the US, there is a substantial service industry underclass who are economically hard-pressed and susceptible to drug use. And sometimes dangerously impatient when fast food orders are slow.
They can be an hour late, because they had to cook a fresh order when he got there.
He was a no-show. He arrived just over 40 minutes late to pick it up.
The original order was trashed, once it had timed out. Can’t sit around forever, and still be served: Safe food handling regulations.
these freakin idiots are gonna ruin delivery for everyone if they keep up assaulting those who deliver-
woops read it wrong- isee it was at the restaurant it happened-
Why’d the chicken cross the road?
To get away from the guy with the gun.
Bubba don’t need no wings.
Looks like there was some very close breeding in that family.
