The Memphis Police Department has released harrowing bodycam footage of five police officers fatally beating Tyre Nichols following a traffic stop for purported reckless driving.
The video released on Friday night shows Nichols, 29, crying out for his mother multiple times during the brutal January 7 assault, which took place just a few blocks from his home.
'Mom! Mom!' screams Nichols as he is pinned to the ground by multiple officers, pepper sprayed in the face, kicked and punched in the head, and struck with a metal baton.
The video shows police rained at least nine blows down on the FedEx worker while screaming profanities throughout the nearly four-minute altercation.
Even after paramedics arrived, a handcuffed Nichols remained slumped over on the pavement for nearly half an hour without significant medical intervention.
All five officers involved in the killing were charged with second-degree murder, with the district attorney saying that though they all played different roles, 'they are all responsible.'
Still, police across the nation were bracing for potential violent unrest as protesters gathered to voice outrage in response to the graphic and highly disturbing footage.

I was thinking that while watching the video. Did the Memphis police dept just go and hire thugs and give them a badge and a gun?

Would I be removed from the jury pool if I brought my own rope to voir dire? I believe that the prosecutor limited it to second degree murder to keep from having the death penalty inflicted on these cops.

Probably just instinctively thinking that if he just got home, it would all be OK.

No idea. But I’m confident if that’s their defense, it won’t help much. I’ve seen drunks put up world class fights with cops...But this suspect was just a punching bag, bad enough to kill him. Even if an existing medical issue was partly the cause of death, getting beat like that would likely trigger it. Even if the suspect had a heart condition, it’s not going to help these cops much. Getting beat like that can be very traumatic and cause the brain to choke itself with stress, shock etc.
Look how they tried to make it look like Darren Chauvin deliberately went out that day to murder George Floyd. The press pushed the idea, along with 1st Degree Murder. They ran the line that they both knew each other from working security in overlapping shifts at El Nuevo Rodeo club, and perhaps had a run-in.

My question would be why not simply cuff and secure the suspect? They had the muscle, and they proved that.
What else was going on with this suspect to get the cops to act as if he just killed all their mothers.

Statistically, black and brown cops are 3x more likely to shoot a black suspect they're trying to apprehend than White cops are.
Which probably means 3x more of the black crims the White cops are arresting deserve/need to be shot but the White cop is subdued for fear of being labeled racist. Black and brown are immune to the charge so they're lighting them up.
I know this Memphis mess didn't involve a shooting but it goes to proving the point.

I don’t see any difference between these criminal cops and murderous street gangs other than their badges
Also right out of The Gulag Archipelago. Solzhenitsyn wrote that after the October Revolution, the Bolsheviks emptied many of the tsar's jails and recruited their thugs from among the inmates.
These thugs were typical street criminals. Their new job was to terrorize ordinary people so no one would question or resist the Revolution.
They might yet be charged with First Degree.
These cops should prepare for a really long vacation in prison or just save us all some money and put a gun a in their mouth

Exactly where would a prison be where inmates would not try to be the first with the shiv? Maybe a military police holding cell in an Antartica weather station. Maybe.
