As ground workers began to approach, the flight’s first officer opened a cockpit window and gave the workers a verbal warning, according to the report.
Emergency lights and a “crew alerting system” were also in operation.
Nevertheless, one worker walked in front of an engine, was “pulled off her feet and into the operating engine” and suffered fatal injuries.
The ground crew worker — later identified as Courtney Edwards, 34, according to Fox News — was a mother of three.
Edwards was given multiple warnings that the engines would remain on during the cool-down period in addition to the pilot’s verbal warning and the safety lights.
According to the NTSB review, the MGM ground crew held multiple safety meetings in advance of the plane’s landing.
During these meetings, it was emphasized that the engines would be running, and therefore unsafe, during the engine cool-down period, which was set to last until the plane connected to ground power.
As Edwards approached the plane to set up cones and perform her duties, multiple crew members attempted to wave her off.
The NTSB review noted that The American Eagle Ground Operations Manual clearly warns ground crew operators not to approach an aircraft while the engines are on and the rotating beacon (one of the warning lights ignored or unseen by Edwards) is flashing.

kinda like ignoring crosswalk signals and doin’ their own thing...
I understand her mindset...she was probably just thinking all those safety precautions were just bs and formalities.
It was completely avoidable. She ignored the warnings from the safety briefings, she ignored warnings from crew, she ignored the fact she almost got knocked on her ass by the exhaust, and she ignored the flashing red light that let the ground crew know the engines were still on. She, and she alone, is responsible for her demise. It's not tragic. It's the combination of stupidity and hubris in action.
You weren’t there.
Don’t put words in other people’s mouths.
Re: 2 - You’re kidding? Especially in regards to someone dying?
Look at the comments so far. They should tell you something about the character of the posters making the comments.
But when one is behind a keyboard, all things are possible, so posters make the comments they do.
Well......I tried
“I looked at the dead woman’s gofundme memorial page listed in the article, yep.”
You truly are a sad individual.
Exactly. I couldn't have said it better. The laws of physics are unforgiving, and you can't talk your way out of them.
“The Darwin principle is still very operative.”
If that’s true why are there still so many liberals running everything?
Thanks for doing so.
It’s just how some posters are, I doubt they can help it at this point, as character is learned from a variety of ways.
Probably. Especially considering that NO ONE except for one person should be anywhere near that aircraft until ground power is connected. And that connection is (should be) nowhere near the engines.
Why is that? Sounds like a workers comp case. If wrongful death in that state is allowed under these fact, it doesn’t sound as if the employer was negligent
Did she do it deliberately? Awful way to commit suicide but how else to explain her missing multiple warnings?
Working in aviation maintenance for around 36 years I had a few lessons in how dangerous it can be and can bite you even when you are following all the safety rules.
Another “It’s not going to happen to me” accident.
Re: 28 - Please consider the source, once you take a look at that FReeper’s posting history.
who appointed you hall monitor?...
Yeah, people have to be fully aware and even them. Always had a healthy respect of engine runs while in the flight line - and the rest of the time!
Re: 38 - I did, when I see some posters making the comments they did.
Deal with it.
