Yeah, people have to be fully aware and even them. Always had a healthy respect of engine runs while in the flight line - and the rest of the time!
I retired with only having had to get a few stitches here and there and the accompaning tetanus shot and I consider myself very fortunate.
Saw a guy lose a finger once because he was wea ring in the shop and got it caught on engine hardware he was going down a ladder....all his weight was going down and it snapped before knew it.....fracture was so bad they amputated.

One of my cousins worked on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier during VietNam. Damn scary place.
