Rishi Sunak, the United Kingdom’s new prime minister, refuses to answer a simple question. He was asked three times whether he received private medical care or relied upon the National Health Service, the British version of “single-payer” government-run national health insurance.
Sunak dismissed the question as “not really relevant.” But it is.
The prime minister is the head of the British government and is ultimately responsible for the National Health Service, the government agency that’s supposed to provide “free” universal coverage and care for all of Britain’s citizens.
It does no such thing.
According to the BBC, there are 7.2 million British citizens awaiting medical care, or almost 11% of the entire British population. And Sky News reports that more than 400,000 people in England have been awaiting hospital treatment for more than a year.
Right now, the most salient problem is emergency care. According to The Telegraph, December data show that people suffering a heart attack face an average wait of 90 minutes for an ambulance, with some waiting up to two and a half hours. For emergency care, The Telegraph further reports, 55,000 people were forced to wait on hospital gurneys for “at least” 12 hours following emergency department decisions to admit them.
Of course, patients suffering from a stroke or a heart attack are always in a race against time, as medical delays can result in permanent disability or death.

The only "wake-up call" they will hear is "we need to spend even more OPM to make it work."
Healthcare in every developed country but the USA are going to collapse with an aging population.
Will lead to big political problems in all of them.
Liberals in the US always believe they can do it better than anyone else, whether at the national level, or if they move to another state.
Doesn’t matter at all to leftists
Every patient in the NHS system could literally die today, and the left would merely claim it wasn’t implemented properly, or dark conservative forces had a hand in its undoing.
It won’t be a wake up call.
Just like Socialism and Communism, the US version will be better. Doesn’t matter that it hasn’t worked ANYWHERE in the world, the US version will be better.
Vermont tried it and it failed. Massachusetts tried it and it failed.
Have no fear though, with the millions if illegals in the country, Medicaid/Medicare will soon be bankrupt so everyone is eff’d. Just talk to the folks at the hospital in Yuma, Az.
The reason this kind of program continues to be proposed again and again is that the excuse is made, “Not the right people running it.”
There shall NEVER be the “right people running it.” Fraud and arbitrary administration are both far too easy with only limited oversight and the lack of any actual competition to force scrutiny of failed practices that crop up and become institutionalized.
IMHO leftists will think this is a feature, as the world need fewer people.
Are you kidding me? We’re talking about Biden voters here! You could bludgeon them with the truth and they’d still call you a liar!
It’s always been a thinly veiled power grab.
When British singer Adele’s billion dollar career was threaten by a throat issue she bypassed NHS and came to the US for what was a successful career saving surgery.
"The NHS is great, except if you are seriously ill."
the nhs is the state religion
it doesn’t matter if it “collapses”....it is still the pride and joy (and in many cases, the reason for existence) of far too many in the uk
The vaccines will be the solution.
“Oh, they just didn’t do it right. We’re MUCH smarter than they is...”
I've been a doctor for 49 years, and if the US doesn't collapse first I will be astonished.
There’s no waking them up with anything because they’re dead enders who are part of a death cult that will go down with the ship and take all of the rest of us with them.
