A wildlife refuge in Arkansas said an African serval cat on the loose in Missouri for at least six months has been safely captured on a farm and will have a new home at the refuge.

Officials said the serval was likely an exotic pet that escaped or was abandoned by its owner. The cats are common as exotic pets and are used to breed Savannah cats, a hybrid of a serval and a domestic feline.

"It was amazing that this young serval could survive six months like she has, but she obviously was successful by the amount of bird feathers we found onsite."

Then why not just leave her be?

Not made for this area. Probably too cold of climate but who knows? They’re very expensive to buy full blood or hybrids. beautiful cats. Very graceful.

She’s in pretty good hands at Turpentime Creek Refuge. It’s just outside of Eureka Springs AR. I go by there occasionally.

Was it a single serval or several servals?

It’s a single serving of a sedentary serval staying in several severe savannah sites, now in servitude.

Savannahs are a cross between the serval and domestic house cats. The servals are too wild to be domesticated (it’s not in their nature).

An F1 Savannah can cost more than twice what a Serval does. We’re talking tens of thousands.

People have servals; they’re legal in a bunch of States. They need an outdoor living situation, and many like to swim, so you’d want a water feature. But they have good natures.

My ginger tabby thinks she’s a mountain lion now, I can’t imagine what she’d be like if she actually had any wild blood in her.

Yes. The serval has severed its ties with the serfs.
