Darwin award to the poor guy who didn’t clear and safe his weapon before he put it away.

Who puts their rifle in the back of a pickup truck?
Almost sounds like a dog ate my homework excuse.

People have been shot by not securing their firearms and it simply falls over

However it wasn't the dog that violated the basic Gun Safety Rules.
He's just the "Fall Dog".

Bull. It just so happens the dog was having an affair with the hunter’s wife. Coincidence?

Maybe the dog felt threatened and it was self defense?

Say what you will about cats, mine hasn’t shot anyone.
Yet.

This happens more than you would think. Over the years, I’ve read dozens of stories where a dog caused a firearm to discharge and either killing or injuring the owner. The mistake was having a round chambered, and the safety “off”, when the firearm was unsecured.

The term is going hot which is to say- locking and loading/chambering a round. Dumb! Dumb! Dumb! Reckless! Reckless! Reckless! Basic firearm safety ignored and now someone is dead. Jail time is appropriate for the guilty party, as well as civil damages.
