Hi! I'm Sydney, a stay-at-home mom of three, and I make homemade meals for my Colorado family every week.
Each weekend — with that budget in mind — I plan all my family's meals for the upcoming week. This includes choosing the recipes I will make, plus the actual shopping. I cook pretty much every meal every day due to a severe peanut allergy in my household. We don't rely on much takeout for this reason.

How long? As long as it takes. Sorta like ukraine. 😱
Heck, a pound of bacon by me is $12 on sale.
That lasts a day in my house.
Reminds me of an old book I used to have 55 years ago.
How To Feed Four for a $1.
She buys bottle marinara sauce and thinks she is thrifty?
You can make it for far less than the bottled crap.
***They eat like wolves. I drop $400+ a week easy.***
I remember dad and mom going to the grocery store in 1962 and buying $3.75 worth of groceries. It lasted all week. We learned to live on potatoes, beans, hamburger, beans, biscuits, beans, beans, beans, cornbread.
My brother will not eat a bean to this day.
Hash browns, 2 eggs and 3 slices of bacon is breakfast for $2.
I don't eat bread...maybe once in a while...peanut butter and banana sandwich...or Tuna.
Looking at the pile of food...I'd say she feeds them cr**.
I probably drop $120 A week on groceries for myself and Mr. GG2. But we like beef.
I had 3 teenagers for a few years...No leftovers...they were’; like animals...with good manners.
That’s what schools are for. Free food for all - this way none of the kids feel bad that they are on the free food program.
I’m 79 and live alone...but still cook by the pot...like when I had 3 kids. The difference is...I have plenty to freeze NOW.
???
Beef, beans, fresh vegetables, a little corn.
That's not junk food.
Tacos are homemade meals?? Really...maybe lunch at my house.
Her shopping strategy is right on. I always shop the ads and digital coupons and keep things on hand like canned tomatoes, onions, garlic, potatoes and canned soups. Yesterday a local grocery had bacon for $1.88 and Campbell soups 10 for $10. My wife and I stocked up and for less than $20 have a variety of meals. Being willing and able to cook from scratch helps a lot. My air fryer and automatic pressure cooker are mainstays in my kitchen and work well particularly when it’s just the two of us. Having the basics on hand and meat in the freezer allows us to be more spontaneous with our meals. Don’t forget to have a variety of seasonings on hand. Again I shop the ads and stock up when spices are on sale. Bay leaves, thyme, rosemary and mixed Italian herbs are good basics depending on your cooking style. Dollar stores sometimes have a surprising number of spices and herbs.
Lots of sodium in that picture.
I’ve been cooking from scratch most of my life, mom did, I polished my skills as a military stewburner (now their called culinary specialists) back in the day we were right up there with institutional cafeterias, but we butchered half sides, and did all the baking. Fresh foods lasted about 2 weeks and in port we served a mix of fresh and the ‘ol #10 cans.
The Philippino cooks could stretch a meal, picked up a lot of info off of their traditional & hybrid techniques.
Make me laugh....They’re al wearing NIKE sneakers. They’re not poor...just looking for 15 minutes.
Before Obama I could feed my family of 4 on about $150 a month.
I am a very frugal shopper and I cook with real ingredients.
After Obama my grocery bill became 350 a month.
Remember the “consumer price index”?? No mention of it during Obama.
“I remember dad and mom going to the grocery store in 1962 and buying $3.75 worth of groceries. It lasted all week.”
Family of three equals 6 cents per meal?
You are 100% correct! My youngest is an O-Lineman. 6’2” and 250. He’s 15!!!! My man can eat!! Oldest lost all his football weight and is shredded, but still eats 3k calories a day easy. His workouts are insane.
No lard-butts in that family.
How unusual.
