For decades, the animated M&M's candy mascots dominated small screen ads. Whether they're fainting from seeing Santa, griping about each other in board meetings, or trying to disable a rocket, the multi-colored characters are used to bringing their shenanigans to audiences at large. This might be why so many people were immediately up in arms after the company announced the iconic spokescandies are being replaced by comedy queen Maya Rudolph for an upcoming Super Bowl ad, saying it's all an effort to sidestep past controversies.
News of Maya Rudolph's partnership with the M&M's brand came via a statement from the company that was shared on Instagram. The message explaining the surprising switch-up alluded to consumer reactions to various changes made to the characters in recent years, such as the Green M&M's design changing to tone down perceived-as-sexual details, as well as the introduction of the Purple M&M. According to the press release, the company is putting the mascots on an "indefinite pause" and opting to move forward with Rudolph in their place. It all seem a bit too tongue in cheek to be real, and yet...
While appearing on Today, Rudolph teased that "lots of fun" will be had in regards to the upcoming Super Bowl ad, and shared how she felt to be the brand's "Chief of Fun" spokesperson, saying:
"It’s a very fun pairing if I do say so myself. I think little Maya would be thrilled to get to work with M&M’s."

This stupid “scandal” is about the animated green M&M changed to wear sneakers instead of go-go boots.
Some people are upset that the figure was made less sexy.

But I liked the original M&M animated commercials.

If you’ve seen Idiocracy, Maya Rudolph was in that, she played Rita. She also portrays Kamala Harris on SNL if I’m not mistaken.
For Gawd’s sake why introduce a human ‘nobody’ into a cartoon commercial for candy? Because some spineless lefty complained about the green character appearing to be female?

This time it was Tucker Carlson who complained. They made the Green M&M less sexy and Tucker said it is like a pretty girl getting married and then getting fat.

But simple searches won't show it, apparrently because her background has been scrubbed or cleaned up

And all these people can find to cry about is some stupid so so candy.
Mars doesn’t just screw up candy.
M&M knows that it is only a matter of time before the woke mob starts demanding “representation”. At that point, what was fun becomes a grim chore, and everybody who liked the previous branding gets annoyed.
They are very wise to side-step that controversy. change the theme now, while it is still a pleasant memory. A year from now would be too late.
The people who will be upset by this are the woke agitators who were warming up in the wings. They will be denied their cheap and easy virtue signalling publicity stunts.
This is a very good move by M&M. They see the writing on the wall, and they are getting out while the getting is good.
