Season 1 of House of the Dragon is over, and it is time to take stock. Inevitably, viewers of the HBO series compare it to season 1 of Game of Thrones, which seem to win effortlessly by comparison.
For starters, some viewers said that though they loved the prequel, they felt kind of bored with it. Season 1 for them seemed to lack that spark that made Game of Thrones so exciting and interesting to watch.
"I'm not saying I hate it, but I'm not excited to watch it. No one is talking about it at lunch. I don't think about it after I've watched it. I don't really care about it at all. I don't think any of the characters are as interesting, and the story definitely isn't as exciting. Oh, well. Can't win them all," a viewer wrote on Reddit.

Good point. But that's just one part of it. Everything about HOD sucks, except they might have cool costumes and make up. But you can see that at a Shakespeare play in London.
Hollywood shouldn't even bother to make anything new for the next ten years. Except for Tom Cruise. He's still cool.
Curious about this article from nine months in the future.
House of the Dragon was much like GOT would have been if the story stayed in Kings Landing through everything and had far fewer characters.
GOT did a fantastic job early with character development and you had so many interesting character arcs to follow, so many territories. The writing for GOT dropped off badly but I don’t regret watching it for the most part.
His last movie was terrible with a highly unlikely and improbable plot. Time for him to go off into the sunset on one of his faster rides.
Oh come on. We all knew Sean Bean would die early LOL
YOLOS - You only live one season
Perhaps so. But the actors carried the show so even if the writing was not that great at the end, it was still decent. Besides it was time for the show to end. Don't want it to go on forever. So I thought the length of the series was perfect. Maybe could have included George Martin's presence at the end. But he had writer's block so what were you going to do?
Seems like it's 50/50 in favor and against the show.
The best-ever movie series, The Godfather, at least made to #3 before the fall...
My biggest issue with GOT was how the ending seemed rushed and many things made no sense when all was said and done. It was time to end it, but a bit more tying of loose ends and another couple episodes could have maybe helped.
Had the same feeling, 60-years ago, after watching Deep Throat...
I loved GoT. I love that genre. I gave "Wheel of Time" a shot. It sucked. I gave "Rings of Power" a shot. It sucked.
I really loved the first "Vikings.' It was flat-out excellent! The new one lacks the subtlety and good writing of the first. They made the Christians into rote Hollywood bad guys. The first "Vikings" didn't do this (I actually found myself cheering for the English Christians).
I expected HotD to suck, to fall victim to Hollywood woeness, but it didn't.
I'm looking forward to the next season.
True. But I prefer that it was an abrupt ending rather than a drawn out season with no direction.
When is Jim gonna give us an edit button?
The finale of Game of Thrones got one thing perfect: it unified every fan of the show...in agreement that the ending sucked.
So far I have watch 3 episodes of HoTD I have enjoyed it as much as GoT.
I might be in the minority. I didn't think it was THAT bad.
He survived Sharpe but yeah.
