Conservative Inc And The Deal With The Daily Wire Devil
JANUARY 20, 2023
This week Steven Crowder made headlines for turning down a 50 million dollar term sheet offered by The Daily Wire. The term sheet, which would have forced Steven to sign over his email list, social media accounts, and revenue streams from his Mug Club, among other things from his life’s work, raised concerns about censorship and the gatekeeping of content creators by large conservative media companies and their owners.
The point of this article is to open your eyes to why your favorite conservative media outlets are not on our side and help you understand that they exist to keep you from discussing ideas that threaten the power of the Regime. These types of exploitative gatekeeping deals are not the outlier; they are the norm. Unlike most of the talking heads I have no gatekeeping contracts and thus can speak freely on these matters and tell you the unfortunate truth that you need to hear.
The Daily Wire is currently trying to gaslight Crowder and make this issue about money or greed when anyone paying attention knows that is not the case. This is a projection on their part because money is indeed what they care about here and in general. They can’t imagine that someone would reject that much money, and it “offends” them. They cry out in pain as they strike Crowder with a terrible one-sided deal for his soul.
It’s not about money, it’s about controlling the narrative.
Clearly, money is not an issue for a man willing to turn down $50 million and go public to dispute the predatory practices of a very large conservative media company. It’s also noteworthy that Steven claims to have been friends with everyone involved for the past decade, so this likely wasn’t an easy decision on his part from any angle. He’s burning bridges here in a big way.
It’s difficult for many people to wrap their heads around what appears on the surface to be a large sum of money. Most of us could never imagine turning down that sum to make Youtube videos. Still, for a creator as big as Crowder with an already established large audience and revenue-generating business, that amount of money over a multi-year period isn’t all that large. Likely, Crowder is already generating millions of dollars annually with his business.

I don’t follow Crowder closely. Heard him a few times and he’s pretty good, maybe very good. I carried away the impression he’s in the Charlie Kirk category who I also don’t follow closely but think he’s a good voice for conservatism.
There’s only so many minutes in the day. I get my news fix from Steve Bannon warroom.org.
There may be a small percentage of the conservative media who are not in it for the money but anybody who thinks otherwise is delusional. A vast majority are in it for that reason alone. If it happens to actually align with their ideology, they will probably rise above the others. I can name several popular conservatives in the media today who I have no doubt would change in a heartbeat if they thought they could make more money on the other side. Many are popular because their “schtick” is to buck their stereotype. Look how many “conservatives” have flipped over the last few years. Torba himself is making money by promoting his social media site as a free speech, conservative site. Without promoting it as conservative, he’s just another low rent Twitter. I don’t trust any of them.
Pundits are all actors who play a role.
Same here. And for me it called into question his judgment on the issue. You just don't do that, and it will come back to bite him.
I think Crowder has a point, but so do those who have rebutted him. I go back and forth on this. Andrew Klavan gave a very calm and sensible response to Crowder on his podcast, and after listening to it, my opinion shifted a little.
I do wonder if this isn't part of Crowder's own business model--to create a kerfuffle and pick up some of Daily Wire's subscribers in the process.
I will kindly disagree with you. He is well off enough that he can say no, and good for him. He is taking a stand on his principals and I consider that a win. I would rather have character qualities of honest convection, integrity, and principals based upon good morals. I respect him for standing his ground as well as attempting to handle a business arrangement without shedding his principals.
“Pundits are all actors who play a role.”
Yep, and they go where the money is.
Ben Shapiro had a good presentation of the timeline of events. (12 minutes long and a must-see:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuEHQwgHKjI
The DW offer of $12.5 million/year was presented to Crowder in early October, Crowder replied in early November with a $30 million/year counter, and DW declined any further negotiations.
Four months pass with nothing happening, then Crowder registers the website StopBigCon.com on December 12th. Crowder announced he was leaving The Blaze on December 15th, and recorded the conversation with Jeremy on January 9th.
It's looking more and more to me like Crowder is trying to launch his own company and wants to bring on other talent, and he manufactured this "controversy" as publicity for that endeavor.

$12.5 million a year....
There is big money being made being a pundit on the internet.
I wonder how much the Daily Wire is making?
I'm genuinely glad to hear that. What I don't like is not just his sloppy rhetoric about Jews. I have good friends who are prone to that. And I know it's hard to keep up with an online presence and crank out words on the fly to respond to events when a lot is at stake.
It's that Torba has written something that makes him sound like a sloppy, overwrought, un-Christian nut. He needs to write with a less self-indulgent attitude and stick to the point.
The $50 million included the complete production budget over a 4 year period. Crowder currently has a staff of 25-30 people. It was not profit.

Not worth it. Same could be said for a number of individuals drawn from any sect. Look hard and one will find it. Simply not worth it unless the sect gets a leader that is elevated by scapegoat tactics (Nazi-Germany and Jews). Then it’s worth it. That’s not happening here.
What the message here is that among those that are effective at focusing Americans on their great heritage, they need to show courage in not selling out.
A great many in DC have sold out. They need to go.

Here is my problem. Steven says A Lot. What he never does is provide evidence. He talks about bulling, and how other CC’s are treated, Evidence please.
So you’re saying Torba is a fool for praising Crowder’s turndown of $50mm? Because Crowder lied to him about it?
Do you have evidence of this?
Torba?
A major problem I have is as posted above “Here is my problem. Steven says A Lot. What he never does is provide evidence. He talks about bulling, and how other CC’s are treated, Evidence please.”
Andrew Torba is the author who uses the example of Steven Crowder to warn that there are establishment persons with boatloads of money capable of buying out leaders in the rebel ranks to get information on who their followers are.
