We have files of Richmond papers to the 16th inst., inclusive. We find the following dispatches from North Carolina in the Richmond Whig of that date:
WILMINGTON, Wednesday, Jan. 14.
All quiet here. It is believed that the fleet and land forces have left Newbern and Fort Macon. Their destination is, probably, Goldsboro and Wilmington, simultaneously. All non-combatants have been requested to leave town.
RALEIGH, Saturday, Jan. 15.
The State Journal has advices from Kinston of this date. Forty regiments of Abolitionists left Newbern yesterday in the direction of Wilmington, crossing Brice's Creek. A courier from Maj. NETHERCUTT reached Kinston this morning, and says the enemy, six to ten thousand strong, are advancing toward Kinston, concentrating at Cole Creek.
In connection with the above, the following extract from a communication of Gov. LETCHER to the Virginia Legislature is of interest:
"Recently many of the soldiers of Virginia in the discharge of duty have gone to North Carolina and elsewhere, posts of danger, where they soon may be engaged in severe and bloody battles. All the indications point with unerring certainty to one or more great battles on the coast of our noble sister State, in which Virginians are to play, I trust, no unimportant part. Our soldiers absent from home and family will require attention -- clothing will be needed -- delicacies for the sick and wounded will be required -- and it will be our duty, as well as our pleasure, to provide for their comfort, and for the preservation of their lives."
A GROWL AGAINST IMPRESSMENT.
From the Richmond Whig.
The President, in his message, apologizes indirectly for the seizure of private property, by what he calls the "power of impressment," by alleging the insufficiency of transportation.

You can still see trenches that were dug in Goldsboro
Where is that around goldsboro? I’d like check that out.
It’s in the neighborhood near “the hill”. There is/was a large park there. One of the trenches was in someone’s front yard.
