Man Becomes First Person to Complete a £60 Mixed Grill Challenge

Viewers loved the reactions from Welsh nans as they watched him complete the challenge

A well-known YouTuber and competitive eater has broken a never-been-done-before mixed grill challenge. Adam Moran, better known as BeardMeatsFood, took on The Mountain Air's 'The Mount Mixed Grill Challenge' in Tredegar, it costs £59.99, or free if you can finish it within an hour.

The mighty mixed grill includes 16oz of steak, 16oz of gammon, two chicken breasts, four pork steaks, two lamb chops, four jumbo sausages, four fried eggs, garden peas, onion rings and chips - enough to give anyone the meat sweats. This isn't Adam's first eating challenge in Wales, he previously visited Flintshire and took on The Hope and Anchor's £20 full-Welsh breakfast challenge. You can view that here.

Adam has over 2.5 million Youtube followers and is a professional competitive eater from Yorkshire. He is also one of the highest-ranked competitive eaters in the world. Upon arriving at the pub, renowned for its mighty portions, he was greeted by a classic elderly Welsh woman who told him: "You won't eat all that." The table of women then proceeded to laugh at him, clearly having no idea that this wasn't his first mixed grill challenge.

Before starting the challenge, he tried to pronounce Tredegar and said that he thought Welsh town names "sound like they should be in Lord of the Rings." Looking a bit intimidated by the large and multiple portions of meat, he began tackling the jumbo sausages, asking the older women not to look at him in the eye as he "handled a sausage like that."

Determined to prove the "old lady" wrong, Adam told staff that he was eating quickly to show her at least a "half-empty plate" before she left. With many laughs and encouragement from the elderly women along the way, Adam managed to polish off the challenge in 37 minutes. He finished on a high, saying "I hope you enjoyed me proving an old lady wrong." He received a round of applause from the restaurant and even managed to squeeze in a lemon meringue pie before leaving.

You can view Adams YouTuve video here:

Commenters on his YouTube video were amazed by the meal Adam finished, and the heckling he received from the older women. Zoe Goldsworthy said: "Da iawn cariad! Really smashed that one! The typical Welsh nanas helped with the entertainment, the natter from them filled me with Welsh pride. Well done Adam!"

Bill O'Donoghue said: "That mixed grill looks absolutely savage, to be honest. Rare to see gammon steak, fine size too. The food looked lovely." Karen Turner added: "That little old lady had no idea who she was doubting! The Biddy’s Club will have something to talk about for a long time! Eating a sausage here cheering you on! The dessert was well-earned and it was fun seeing you smash another one!"

If you have to ask what a strangely-worded UK “delicacy” is, you don’t want to know, and you sure as hell don’t want to eat it.

WTH is a gammon?

Gammon is the bottom end of a whole side of bacon cured by dry-salting or brining.

Looks damn good, actually!

Takes a lot of training to stuff that much food into your head.

I would have loved to try that challenge when I was a teenager. Now, not so much.

I’ll take a full English breakfast. A full Welsh breakfast probably has some things I’d consider nasty. Full disclosure: to me gourmet is a French word meaning nasty.

I had a bowl of green split pea soup and a roll for dinner. I’m stuffed. I doubt if I could get through the 16 Oz steak. By the way, the soup was great. There’s a local business that smokes everything pig. I used a smoke ham hock to make the soup. Perfect for a good winter’s eve.

A ham hock bone makes the best split pea & navy bean soups!

I can’t stand split pea soup; but a good navy bean soup with a ham hock is wonderful.

Brandy Broth

"O Brandy Broth is the King of Broth and royalist the rooms of the mouth. A good chicken and a noble piece of ham, with a little shoulder of lamb, small to the least of grease, and then a paste of the roes of trout with cream, a bit of butter, and the yoke of egg, whipped tight and poured in when the chicken, proud with a stuffing of sage and thyme, has been elbowing the lamb and the ham in the earthenware pot until all three are tender. In with the carrots and turnips and the goodness of marrow bones, and with a mixture of milk and potatoes. Every 15 minutes pour in a noggin of Brandy and a pint of home brewed ale. Throw in the chopped bottoms of leeks. Drink down the liquor and raise your eyes to give praise for a mouth and belly.
