‘IT WASN’T ME’: BLACK WOMAN ARRESTED FOR SHOPLIFTING IN TEXAS BUT HAD NEVER BEEN TO STATE

A Philadelphia woman was arrested and detained for shoplifting in Texas. The only problem was, she had never been to Texas.

In a case of mistaken identity, Julie Hudson spent a week behind bars after she walked into a police station asking for assistance on Jan. 5. Applying for jobs, Hudson noticed background checks from potential employers were claiming she had a criminal record. Shortly after, she was arrested.

It turned out there was a warrant out for the arrest of Julie Hudson—but in Webster, TX. NBC 10 reported that last May, another woman with the same name was seen on camera shoplifting in a sporting goods store. A surveillance photo of the suspect looked very similar to the 31-year-old’s social media picture. “When you know that you didn’t do anything wrong, it makes you feel crazy,” Hudson said.

The PhD student was released on Wednesday after her family reached out to both Texas and Philadelphia officials. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office in Texas filed a dismissal motion, claiming insufficient evidence, on Tuesday. However, the Philadelphia Police Department told NBC 10 they only found out about the warrant dismissal after a media inquiry came in. “At that time, we immediately requested that Ms. Hudson be released from custody and are actively working with the Philadelphia Department of Prisons to process her release in as expeditious a manner as possible.” Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said in a statement, obtained by The Insider, that Hudson’s family deserves credit for bringing this to light. “What happened to her should not have happened,” Krasner said.

Thankful for her release, Hudson still questioned how this could have happened. “I want to find out how this happened and I want it to not happen to anyone else ever again,” she told NBC 10.

Gee, why didn’t the cops just throw out a dragnet, and arrest everyone in the country named Julie Hudson?

I hope this lady sues for $70,000, and gets it - $10,000 for each day she was in jail.

That really does suck. I feel sorry for that woman. But really, who knows who else it might have happened to, and they just weren’t arrested.

More differences than similarities.
Both black women of near the same age,
Both are overweight.

Woman A. dresses herself better. She styles her hair.
Smiles nicely at an outdoor, gathering.
Hold’s her white wine with care.
Rounded tip of nose makes her look Jamaican.

Woman B. wears probably one of her husband’s t-shirts.
Yanks her hair into an uneven ball and snaps a rubber band around it. Has not had hair trimmed in a long time.
Wears a blank expression.
Does not bother with wearing a bra.
Average Black American female appearance, but unadorned.

My stepson had the same first and last names as a criminal who lived in another state (which my stepson had never visited). It cost him several job opportunities when this guy’s record would show up during a background check. He spent years and thousands of dollars getting it all straightened out.

Unfortunately he is a white male, so no hope of suing anyone.

Honestly any system of justice is going to make mistakes.

The key here is to 1) Apologize, 2) Take responsibility, 3) Make her whole (as nearly as possible, this means $), and 4) Take steps to make sure it never happens again.

This should all be done ASAP.

My son, an aerospace engineer, when applying for an apartment at college, had the same name as some drunk with a DWI. Had to get that straightened out before he could rent the apartment.

Deep State is cool with that.

Especially when it comes to local LE.

Well, my stepson never actually got arrested and thrown in jail, so there’s that. But it took forever to get it all taken care of, and the worst was dealing with the DMV. Didn’t matter what proof and documents he provided, they kept refusing to renew his driver’s license.

I’m saying this again, for like the second time in ten minutes. We live in a world/society where people have lost the ability to do their jobs in any effective way.

How many Julie Hudsons must there be in the USA? More that two, I’ll bet that.

And, I didn’t read far enough to see what the theft was, but in NYC they let you out in 5 minutes for killing someone. Now, post covid, they are locking some woman up for a week over a warrant for SHOPLIFTING?????
