In spite of "news" that seem to show that Russia is losing and Putin is about to die and be overthrown (maybe they'll dig him up and execute him), are you prepared for "Oceania has always been at war with EastAsia", that is, to hear, amazingly, that Russia won?
A news source continually pricking the soap bubble that Zelinskiyy is winning, is the British based Alexander Mercouris, whose vlog entries are extremely long, but who is only reporting open news sources which, however, are not censored U.S. "news".
>Wagner or not, the corpses are coming out of Russia’s pool of military aged males. And I doubt the defenders are suffering anywhere near the casualties that Wagner is suffering.
Well, the problem is that neither side is honest about the war, but from what I’ve seen Wagner is doing the heavy lifting in Soledad and Bahkmut. The Russians have withdrawn most of their troops to artillery service. The Ukrainians are losing troops precipitously, and I expect that in a week or so you’ll see the Russians feint a big defeat and then the second wave of Russian attack will begin.
I just want this war to end. Pointless death.
And it's also not just London and and Washington: Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden and Finland are also doing a lot to help Ukraine. The main impediment has been and remains German foot-dragging, which given the SPD's deep ideological hatred of the US and financial ties to Russia and the German attitude to restart business by conceding as much of Ukraine to Russia as they may is hardly surprising.
The whole raison d'etre of the Grosse Koalition for twenty years was the ruthless pursuit of political and economic gains by the German elites at the expense of their European neighbors and the US.
“Every war that Russia has fought in the last few centuries has been an utter disaster for them in the first year. After that, they adapt. That, plus numbers, and sometimes General Winter, usually end up winning the war for them.”
I think you have to make a distinction between the types of wars that Russia fights and the results they achieve. Most of the really major conflicts that they fought and won where either fought defensively, or against a smaller nation with no significant allies, or, when fighting a strong country or alliance, Russia had the support of one or more great powers on its side as well. Those are the kinds of situations that resulted in Russian victories.
Russia has fought a few conflicts that didn’t fit those conditions, such as the Russo-Japanese war, which resulted in an embarrassing defeat, and the Crimean war, which also resulted in a defeat. I’d say the current war fits those second set of conditions better than the first.
They lost WWI, decisively.
They lost in Afghanistan, decisively.
They lost the Cold war, decisively (you may claim it wasn't a real war, but Korea, Vietnam, Nicaraugua, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, and Poland show otherwise) They were proxy wars, much as Ukraine is a proxy war, only the USA is playing the role of Russia in Korea...
“Alexander forgot to open with “Good Day” yesterday...”
Yep, perhaps Covid?
“Alexander Mercouris is one of a very few commentators who understands the conflict and is willing to report objectively.”
True, and he even reports bad news for Russia, which seems confirmed at the time, but then winds up being not nearly as bad. To put it another way, while he’s, obviously, not a Ukraine fan, he’s also not a paid shill for Russia, since he’s willing to report bad news on them (such as when they had to run back in the north last summer).
Hardly pointless for the Ukrainians.
And the Wagnerites were thrown in because of high casualties and reluctance to fight by the regular army. So if they run out of Wagnerites, I'm not sure the regular army will fight any better.
Sure. Ukraine is winning. Ignore they are now in the dark. Ignore they could not last a week without U.S. taxpayer billions of dollars. Ignore Zelensky desperate for more weapons and money. That is winning?
The Ukraine cheerleaders on this site are laughable.
Those living in Eastern Ukraine are tied to Russia by culture and language. Those in West Ukraine are tied culturally to Poland, Romania, Hungary or Slovakia. They are not all a culturally unified people.
The present Ukraine government is a corrupt dictatorship. Opposition to Zelensky has been outlawed. Russian Orthodox churches have been raided and outlawed. TV stations in opposition have been shut down.
Zelensky is the Al Capone of Ukraine. He is a gangster pushing forward to fatten his own wallet. He owns mansions in Florida and Italy. His parents live in a mansion in Israel. This scoundrel is not a “man of the people.” He is milking the USA for mountains of money.
Ukraine has no strategic value to the American people. It is not a member of NATO. It is universally known as one of the most corrupt nations on Earth. Ukraine is none of America’s business. It is not worth a single drop of American blood. Period.
>Hardly pointless for the Ukrainians.
Yes, it is. They’re going to lose the Dombas and all the money will be funneled away to nowhere. These dreams of retaking East Ukraine are impossible now that AZOV and the other Banderites are breaking rocks in Siberia.
It’s just sad that we’re still doing the Obama thing of paying for revolutions that get hundreds of thousands killed.
In a war of attrition the Ukraine bleeds out first.
“It is painful to listen to this guy, so I don’t.”
Try “Fox and Friends”. You can sleep right through it and not miss a thing. No thinking required.
Some of the Azov defenders are back in Kiev after swaps. And the Ukrainians do not seem to have any shortage of replacements.
I don’t know I don’t watch. I’ll have to disagree with you, completely, and leave it there.
>And the Ukrainians do not seem to have any shortage of replacements.
Dunno about that. Their troop rotations are getting less and less.
Putin croaked last month. What you see is his body double. Who is so good, he has Prigozhin and Shoigu fooled.
